The wire harness connects to the lamp housing, the lamp itself is a twist lock tab that contains the bulb. They are similar to the old style dash lamps where the socket that held the lamp has contacts that complete the circuit on the surface of the housing. If you look at the round area above the wire harness you can see whats left of one of the tabs on my 24. There is limited space and the tab is very fragile and will break easily because they are so tight. I was able to remove this one by using a 90 degree pick against the area of the broken tab but I put it back until I can acquire a new socket. I was told by someone with in depth knowledge of these trucks to not attempt replacing these lamps with an LED. I had originally wanted to put a set of Lasfit switchbacks in their place but he talked me out of it.

OOh so it's one of those stupid rubber stoppers/plugs like the head lamps? I was trying to twist the wire harness good thing I used common sense and didn't man handle it. Well this is the exact reason Im trying to get at the  bulb I have a pair of the lasfits coming from Amazon tomorrow. What is the issue with them?

If you look at the housing there is a "LOCK ---------->" just above where the lamp is.

Let me know how they work. I really would like to change mine but with the electronics on the 24 I am leery of anything beyond changing headlights.

Now you went and got me wanting to do mine

I would say for $50 it's worth it. Some people had trouble with them hyper flashing but I have not seen any of this with mine. Before you screw them back in test them because they are polarity sensitive you might have to flip the bulb in the socket to make it work. When removing the bulbs initially turn the socket to the right (counter clockwise) until it stops. Then you will have to start wiggling it and pulling on it (well you should know the motion) to release the rubber seal you can even try with your nails to pry it loose and off. Before I reinstalled the bulb sockets I coated the gasket in a little WD40 and that helped get it back on much easier. (remember lube is your friend).

I am loving the headlights but I am not sure I am going to do the switchbacks or not.

I acquired a replacement lamp holder for the pass side one I broke the tab on. I again had a hard time getting it to rotate so I could remove it.(I used a 90 degree cotter pin hook with a sharp point and dug that into the face of the socket in order to get it to turn)  I put a little smear of dielectric grease on the gasket surface on the new socket and it went right in and is easily removable now. The drivers side socket can be removed with a little effort. Not sure why or how the pass side one was so hard to turn but its been fixed so if I ever decide to pull the trigger on the switchbacks I am ready.
