20" Grazen Painted Pocket Wheels

Anyone know the correct part numbers for the lugs and wheel locks for these wheels? My understanding is that they use the Bulge-type cone seats and I'm having trouble finding the right set of locks for them.

There are apparently two different sets of lugs for the Silverado/Sierra's mags. One that has a shallow cone and one that has a deeper cone. The deeper one apparently takes a 7/8" socket and has a larger overall diameter , the shallower one a 3/4" socket. They're both angled at 60°. These wheels take the deeper cone. I just can't find the part number for the locking lugs for them.

Not sure that's correct. I actually bought a set of those very locks. After taking one of the lug nuts off and comparing them side by side the lug nut is definitely bigger around, and has a rim around the base right above the cone that tightens against the wheel. The locking nuts just sit down inside the chamfer/cone without contacting the meat of the wheel.

I tried calling the dealership today but couldn't get through. I'll keep trying, and worse case go to the counter when my plates are ready to be picked up.

Here's what my lug nuts look like. That rim around the base tightens against the wheel. The locks I bought and that you pictured don't have that, or tighten that way. And they're smaller in diameter on the business end.

But, I do appreciate you trying to help. If I can get a part number from the counter I'll post it here, whether I'm right or wrong.

Yeah, the locking ones are shaped differently at the top but the cone at the bottom is what is important. It is a 60 degree seat. I have those locks on my truck. I bought 2 sets of them. One set didn't have the paperwork with it to order a spare key. The other set was still in the package and has the code to get another key. I have put both sets on my truck with no issue.

But what wheels do you have on your truck?

My understanding is that both the smaller cone locks and the larger cone locks have a 60° cone. But the smaller ones aren't big enough around to make contact with the sides of the bolt holes near their top.

I went to the dealership today and they had nothing in stock, but the picture of the locks in the lug and lock set which they could order shows what appears to be a larger diameter and deeper cone than the 09599493 set.

 

These are from GM Part No. 17801711, which is a set of 20 lugs and 4 locks

The smaller ones are most likely M12x1.5 and not M14x1.5. Both sets I have are the same long style. I have black 20's that were an option on the Custom Trail Boss.

Interesting. Both pics I included in my last post were of 14 x 1.5 locks. When you say you have two sets, do either or both look like these?

 

And do your lug nuts looks like these? Chrome or black doesn't matter, just wondering about their profile.

I have about 4 or 5 sets of just plain lug nuts I've bought off ebay between extras for my Silverado I used them on my 08 Avalanche that I had a set of these Grazen 20" wheels on. The locking lugs are both the tall ones with the 3 rings near the base.

9596070 is used on all aluminum wheels with the decorative nuts, 1500-3500 trucks (and many other GM vehicles).  22mm socket size, M14x1.5 thread.  The only wheels that use anything different are the steel wheels on 1500s and HDs.

Wheel locks.  They just changed them.  

 

The old ones in chrome were 9599493.

The new ones are from a different manufacturer, 85548789

GM also has 1 piece lugs with locks that they sell for the accessory wheels but work on the production wheels as well non issue.  85105298.

I bought a set of the 09599493. Those are the ones with the three rings near the base. I screwed one down onto the lug that I took a nut off of to compare, and it seated way down into the wheel. I'm just concerned that it's not making contact with enough of the wheel to be 100% effective. Are those the ones that you used on your Avalanche?

I've seen the ones on your pic above. I just don't understand how they can fit given the big difference in profile between them and the lugnuts that you also pictured, which match the ones on my truck in size. And I'm not sure they would fit into the wheels given how big around they are. The cone looks to be the right size but I wonder what purpose the gap between the cone and the larger ring serves. I don't believe that ring would ride against the flat surface of the wheel after the cone is screwed down tight.

Now the 85105298 lugnuts look right, and appear to match the profile of the lugs on my truck. The diameter appears to be larger than the 09599493 locks, with a larger cone. Now if I could just find some locks that were the same size as those nuts.

I have the 9599493 on my truck (and the one piece GM lugs as well).  We've installed hundreds, heck maybe thousands of the 9599493 over the years.  They are (were) the correct locks.  No need to keep overthinking this.  9599493 (and other GM locks of this style) are made by McGard.    

 

85105298 are the new design "Thatcham" locks that replaced 9599493.  85105298 has the production style look on the top half of the lock and uses a perimeter key setup on it.    

 

Not much more to "dig" here.  This is all straight from GM parts catalogs and the accessories catalogs.

I picked these up today. Even though I already have what I believe are the same locks, I got the whole package for a very good price.

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.

      I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.

      Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
