I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado LT and I noticed that when I open the upper glove box, it doesn't stay open. I don't use it very often, so I cannot remember if this glove box used to stay open. When I lift the handle and open it, it comes back down and I close it, but I was wondering if its supposed to stay open. Please let me know.

Thank You!

My 2019 stays open.

When you open it, does it make any type of noise as it's opening? Like any clicking noise?

There’s no clicking noise as the door swings up or as it reaches the open position.  Only a subtle click is heard on the initial pull of the handle to open the door.  I can feel there is a spring mechanism that’s holding the door open.

Thanks! I'm trying to figure out where that's located as it seems mine is not staying open and just falls down if I don't hold it up. I'm still within warranty, but just wonder if its even worth it. I don't know if I want them taking the whole dash apart just to fix this minor issue.

I would hope it would be just a hinge with the spring inside or the door replaced. It would suck to have to rip the dash out to get it fixed.  Good luck!

Would you do it if they had to rip the entire dash out to fix or replace it?

Personally, no.  It isn't a really useful box.  I keep a few folded garbage bags, some zip ties and a microfibre cloth in there.  It's not a box I access often.  I wouldn't trust the dealer to put the dash back together without snapping some plastic clips and later on I have a rattle or warped panels. With that said, I did a quick search on YT and I found a video about replacing the upper glove box for a '14-'19LD Silverado.  I didn't see one for the '19-'22 but I would think it'd be similar. Looks like the whole box comes out in one piece with minimum disturbance of the dash.  Again, 14-19LD, so could be different on the '21.

Yeah I had seen that video as well and I feel the same way. I don't know if I can trust the dealer to not mess up other stuff. The box still opens, it just doesn't stay open on its own. I might just leave it alone. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I have been looking at removing the upper glove box. That youtube video has nothing to do with your truck. That vid is for an older model. From what I have gathered so far you have to remove the upper dash pad and the center stack with the radio display and the climate controls. I want/need to do this to add some accessory circuits for the center console I installed into my 23 Trail Boss Custom (wireless charger, rear power outlet and rear console USBs). I believe I need to go through the firewall to fusetap into some "ignition on" circuits. Hopefully someone with this knowledge will reply to this thread within a few days. But IMO I would not hesitate to have an experienced technician at a Chevrolet dealership repair your glove box latch spring under warranty. Once I figure out how to remove my upper glove box I will do it myself on my new Trail Boss but I used to be that experienced Master Technician at a Cadillac dealer.

There are ignition on circuits in the passenger side fuse box.

Wow big job! I just snaked my auxiliary wiring circuits below the dash. Had to remove some module and a bracket and made a slice in the nipple in the upper firewall to run the wires to the underhood fuse block.

I think the problem with these boxes breaking is due to how quickly and sharply they pop open when new.  I use my thumb to open the box and let my fingers keep the box lid from slamming upward. Bad design on their part. They should have built a shock buffer of some sort into the mechanism so that they don't flip up so hard. Don't forget to tell your passenger to slow the opening as well. I have a feeling it wouldn't take more than a few unassisted openings to break, especially in a cold interior.
