I'm trying to find out if the old TPMS sensors (like on a 2021) can be read by the new TPMS trucks (like on a 2023)

I had a set of AT4 take-offs that I ran during winter on my 2021. (during 2021, so before the new sensors were released)

Trying to learn if the sensors in them can be read by the 2023 TPMS system.

If they can, I'd expect that the tire fill alert and auto-learn will not function.

I have a teach tool that I can use with the old sensors if that can help get the job done.

Accessories shows they do have the same description and frequency

but they are physically different and of courses also different part numbers.

Can anyone shed any light on using the old sensors on a 1500 with the new TPMS system?

No, they are different and are not cross compatible.

bwoodsmn is right the sensors from the 2021 will need to replaced with 2023 sensors to work on your new truck. When I got my new Trail Boss I had to install new sensors in the 20" wheels from my 2021 T.B.

Yea, you need the new ones.  They are totally different sensors.

The old ones may or may not synchronize during a manual relearn (with a relearn tool) but will immediately drop out once you start driving.

The old sensors are considered a "manual" learn sensor.  You need to trigger them to the truck in order to sync them to the truck.

The new sensors so 2022 refresh and newer 1500 and 2024 HD are an auto learn sensor.  You rotate or install a new sensor, and the truck will automatically learn it to the truck and its position on the truck for rotates, etc.

Both operate on 433mHz frequency but have different operating protocol past that (GM Global B/GM VIP), so the auto learn 433mHz won't work on a 2019-2022 LTD, and a 2019-2022LTD sensor won't work on a refresh 2022 and newer 1/2 ton or 2024 HD.

Thanks everybody.

I suspected that was the case, but wanted to verify.

Getting ready to put the winter shoes on....

Ha .. I have the reverse question.  Can 2024 sensors work on older years .. mine is a '21.  I purchased 2024 GM takeoffs that has brand new sensor and want to install them on my '21 Denali. Im not concerned about the self learning position as mine doesnt have that software. I just want the pressure to work. If not I will be selling them

Thanks

I would look up both on Rock Auto and see if part numbers are the same.

No.  This was answered a couple posts up too.  They will learn and then immediately un-learn because the sensors are changed in their operation.  Same frequency but they don't work the same way because of the auto learn change.

You need the 19-22 pre refresh sensors.  13528563.
