Following.  I'm on the fence about getting my kid a Colorado or a Tacoma.  He likes the Colorado, and I like the price.  My focus is on longevity.

My son had a brand new 2021 Colorado! Log truck run a red light and tee bone the Colorado! Totaled truck he walked away without a scratch! Tacoma is a great  truck! My problem with the Tacoma is not the truck it’s the company. Truck, at the time I was going to buy was priced above msrp. I have a super prime rating and they would not go below 6.9 apr. the 6 cylinder uses Atkinson cycle( I might be stating that wrong) which gave the truck no low end torque gas mileage and price were not that much better than a Chevrolet custom. The 2.7t in the Colorado had more torque and better price and a great built truck for better Apr. the only midsize truck I would consider was a Tacoma but with the price of it I could get in a Silverado custom 2.7t. I drive the Colorado for a week then a Tacoma for a week and then the Silverado custom for a week. Granted most people do not get to do that, but the owner of the dealership is a close personal friend. Fell in love with the Silverado custom. 2.7t is flawless. Colorado was awesome as well but was a mid size. I a very fortunate turn of events I wound up buying a 2023 Silverado RST with a 5.3 z71 . Hail storm here had destroyed all my cars here, I mean beat the roof line in on all of the. The used car market was high so I got a huge settlement. I wasn’t planning on trading in my 2004 Silverado at first but I guess God had other plans. My son who to got out of the marine corp ,who’s Colorado was t boned  bought a Silverado custom 4x4 2.7t. All of these truck being compared were 2023 models. The Tacoma 2024 May be a game changer though
