Well, I finally got my little Zama carb finished and it is too cold to paint any model cars, so I got an old Quadrajet to work on. When I got it, the thing was caked in grime and dirt.

I removed all of the plastic and rubber peices and sprayed it down with some carb cleaner (not a full cleaning, just enough to see everything stamped on it).

That is all I am going to do with it for now. I still need to order the book on rebuilding these and the actual rebuild kit.

I rebuilt the QJ on my old 74 Vette. It was easy. I bought a book called (what else) 'The Rochester Quadrajet ' and a rebuild kit from (I think) summit.

QJs aren't as complex as you first think and I did mine in a couple of hours sitting on the front stoop with a 6 pack of fine ale in my cooler.

Here it is pretty much done, just need to get some linkage and a couple external parts taken care of....

It wasn't too hard to rebuild. A few parts, the primary metering rods especially, were kind of challenging, but over all it wasn't very hard to do.
