2018 6.2L Engine Knock Cold Start

Recommended Posts

I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L engine. It has 42,600 miles on it. I bought it over the summer of 2023, so it has plenty of warranty left on it, luckily. I’ve noticed lately that the engine has a bad knocking or slapping sound when it starts in the cold (under 32 degrees Fahrenheit). I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to fix it.

It sounds the same way my 2002 5.3 Tahoe would knock in the cold. I don’t appreciate a nearly brand new truck knocking the same way my 22 year old Tahoe knocks.

Should I bring my truck into the dealership to have them diagnose an issue? Is this normal?

You have extended warranty coverage?

Because it's already past the standard 5/60,000 coverage.

Yes, I bought an extended warranty from the dealership that covers nearly everything. Goes until 2028 or 100,000 miles.

I might just take it in to question the noise anyways.
