I have a 2014 gmc 1500 it has the knob to shift in to 4x4  currently it’s stuck in four-wheel-drive it was sitting for a while so I had to jump it and after I jumped it. It says service 4x4 and you can turn the knob and the light will go out and not shift or do anything and it’s just stuck in 4x4 I plugged in a snap on scan tool and there was no coads so I’m not sure where to start I don’t want to just start throwing parts at it

Start by pulling the fuse (should be able to find location in the OM) to see if this disengages it. May be a gremlin from the battery running down.

Start by checking the transfer case fluid – make sure it's at the recommended level and in good condition.

Also, maybe look at the transfer case actuator and motor. Sometimes, they can get a bit finicky after a jump start.

If all looks good there, perhaps resetting the system could help. Disconnect the battery for a bit, give it a breather, and reconnect. This can sometimes resolve electronic glitches.

When the battery starts to go, you will get all kinds of crazy things happening with the electrical system. Maybe have it checked, or just replace to be safe.

Im having the same issue. Truck completely died after returning from overseas, changed battery, starter went out, replaced starter and days later vehicle is stuck in 4wd. Tried the fuse and nothing. Did you find a solution?

Any update? Having same issue.

No you're not.

To the OP: I'm sure you've had it solved by now, but for what its worth, whenever a fault occurs in the transfer case encoder motor position sensor or the transfer case range position sensor, a "service 4wd" will appear and the truck will stop shifting from whatever mode its in. You need to have it/ the TCCM scanned for the Cxxxx codes relating to whatever has failed.
