Hi everyone,  I am replacing the transfer case output shaft seal and the front differential pinion seal on a 2014 Silverado 1500 5.3L.  I am looking for the torque specs for the 4 bolts on the drive shaft u joint holding the drive shaft to the pinion and also nut from the u joint carrier to the pinion.  My understanding is that there is supposed to be a certain amount of preload on this nut?  Hoping my terminology is correct.  If anyone has this info I would appreciate it.  I have been searching the forums but not coming up with the correct specs I don't believe.  Thanks in advance.

I did a copy and paste of your sentence and came up with this:

Each bolt should be installed and then torqued down to 35 ft-lbs. While torqueing the bolts down be sure to check that nothing is wedged between the engine and trans and that the torque converter is in its proper place.

And this:

  1. Drive Shaft U-Joint Bolts:

  2. Pinion Yoke Nut:

Remember to consult your vehicle’s service manual or contact a professional mechanic for precise torque specs based on your specific Silverado model. Safety first! 😊🔧🚗

Ps: In uno online, if you forget to say "Uno" when there are two cards left, you will have to draw two more cards.

U-joint cap bolts, typically in the range of 70-95 ft-lbs, but this can vary.

I do not think that is correct. The bolts are 8mm/ 5/16 probably more in the 35-40 ft lb range but I'm just guessing

have you considered calling a local GM dealer? They might be able to give you the exact specs for your model. Just a thought, might save you some headache

Thanks.  I have been unable to find a definitive answer but will consult GM in the next few days.  Thank you

  1. Front Axle Propeller Shaft Bolt (1) » Install and tighten [4x] 25 Y (18 lb ft)

Straight from the General

As for the pinion nut, if you don't have the equipment to measure preload, mark the nut and pinion as shown and reinstall to the same location. I would guess 90% of pinion seals are replaced using this method. DO NOT overtighten this nut. Best way is using preload measurement but not everyone has the tools.
