I got a wierd e-mail. this is the wierd part, it was from ME! my address, sent to the same one. it was titled "status" The message said "is this criminal?", and included the attachment "msg.pif" as either 32 or 34 KB in size. but you can't d/l it sais "Hotmail has permently blocked this potentially unsafe e-mail" I clicked the more info link and their system says nothing of blocking attachemnst, just give you a warning if they are corrupted.

any ideas? did someone get in my account?

I got one from "myself" a few times. I didn't know what to do, so I just deleted it, and went on. Probly should have changed my password or something, but I didn't even bother. Guess I'm lazy, don't care or both.

Just spam.....don't worry about it, no one has your password. Don't open the attactment, as it probably contains a virus of some sort. You might also want to check to see if your email address is on a website somewhere. My GF's school put her email addy on the web, and she gets spam up the ying-yang. Posting your email online in plain text is a big no no...it takes about 10 minutes to write a bot that grabs them off the web. Of course if you have jackass friends like mine, they sign you up for every website newsletter possible....just to piss you off.

Most likely the W32.Netsky virus. It has its own built in SMTP engine and spoofs email addresses and etc.

The .pif file that was blocked is a viral file, the most common file used today by most viruses are .pif extension files.

Delete that email and dont open it.

I could send you an email right now from your own email address. Most spam emailers use a form of telnet emailing, wherein, you define your email address. It's pretty simple to do, and most spammers do it to get your attention. Nothing to worry about.

Ha!

I just ran Norton and have two W32.Netsky viruses. Just thought it was funny that I ran it not two minuts ago and here yall are talking about it.

It is not difficult to fake a FROM adderss. Forging SMTP headers are a little more difficult tho. As you guessed that PIF was more than likely a virus so good that you didn't open it.
