“Service Emission System” & “175 miles until “65 MPH Max Speed”

I don't drive this truck on a regular basis since I have a new company truck with no out of pocket fuel or maintenance cost. Yesterday I got it out to run some errands and got the title message on my DCI. A quick Google search suggested to first clean the Map Sensor. I pulled it out and it was sooty so cleaned it up and reinstalled it. Issue not resolved. My OBDII is a couple years old so didn't see any codes. Today I took it to a friend at AutoZone to get him to check it with his reader.

It had the following codes:

P20C3

P02BB

P221F

Stating the most likely solution is to replace diesel emission fluid (DEF) tank assembly.

 

So, I guess a trip to the dealer is necessary. I read where there was a backorder on these tank assemblies several years ago so hope that has been resolved.

Try draining the def and relacing with new if it has been sitting for a long time. Def does go bad after a little while.

It's not that it sits for extended periods. I drive it every couple of weeks. However, I did consider draining the DEF and replacing it. 

 

Don't you get a "Poor quality DEF warning" if its bad?

Not sure, I've never a seen a poor quality def warning. The distance part of the warning you're getting makes me think your truck wants a forced regen and fresh def, the codes indicate the tank/heater is bad. What year is your truck? If it is under warranty just bring it to a dealer. If not I would try a def fluid swap before replacing the tank.

These codes don't automatically clear if you fix the problem?

Yes.  If you haven't had a tank replaced yet for heater failure, its time.  Those 3 codes are all for the DEF heaters in the tank.

Not gonna fix DEF heater codes.  OP needs a tank.  2020-2022 is the most failure year for them.

Correct.  You "should" see a poor quality warning and it would have codes stored for DEF quality.

Fluid swap won't fix OP's issue.

Correct.  Once the tank is replaced, you have to command a couple of emissions tests via scan tool.  DEF tank level reset and a reductant tamper warning test.

It's a '21 and was a CPO with extended protection when purchased, so hopefully it will be covered.

 

I supposedly have all of it's service record history and nothing noted other than routine fluid changes, tire rotations, and the windshield washer nozzles replaced once.
