Stu Katz Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I have a 91 GMC SIERRA 1500 4.3 liter. My dipstick broke. Can someone tell me how long is the oil dipstick. Local Part stores do not stock the oil dipstick. If someone can tell me the length. I can match up an aftermarket one. Thank you.
richard wysong Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Did the dipstick itself break or did the tube it slides into? The stick is easy, just measure the 2 broken pieces, the tube is trickier, install the new 1, change the oil adding the factory spec oil quantity and see where it shows on the stick. You may have to trim the tube with a tubing cutter to get the stick accurate.
Atlas Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The original GM part number appears to be 10144043 and the stick (not including handle) measures 27" long. Here is from the GM parts website. Dimensions show as 30.6" but I believe that to be the full length of the stick including handle. If you can't find an aftermarket stick to fit correctly, it would be worth looking for a used one at a salvage yard and cruising all the 4.3 and small block GM's close in age. Here's an expired listing for one on eBay to help you compare to yours and maybe do some searching for one. This has a photo with measurements of the actual stick length https://www.ebay.com/itm/257364223521 It's hard to believe that parts for a 90's 4.3 are getting hard to find.. 1
