Gear ratio for 35" tires

Hey guys,

I finally got my 4" suspension lift with 35" BFG a/t's last week. But, the mod bug is hitting me again really quick. I took this truck offroad a little and it performed really well. But, with 3.73's its hurting its ability. Now, here is the deal, I am fixing to install a dual shock set-up all around w/ a steering stabilizer and a limited slip. I need some gears also. What ratio do ya'll suggest? I drive this truck everyday and gas mileage doesnt bother me too bad. I was thinking of 4.56's but I dont know. Need some suggestions for that an a good limited slip.

Thanks,

Chad

Great googly moogly you have put more mods on that truck in the shortest amount of time I have ever seen. :sigh:

He!! of a good job! Looks awesome

I think that 4:56's would do you very well off road, but I'm no expert....(They will chime in soon.)

Once again. Great looking rig, thanks for the pics

Hey there! Nice ride. I just got done putting 456's in my 03 Hd. I am also running 35's. At about 75mph the tach is at 2500 rpm. It is right there where the power is. The 456's are perfect. I will post some pics of mine when it stops raining.

My truck stock had 4.10's in the rear. I put on a 6" Pro comp lift with 35's. For me I put in 4.88's and it drives like it was stock again. I can tow heavy trailers and the truck doesnt feel like its winded anymore.

I say 4.88, you get lots of torque and thats good if you're doing low RPM off roading.

HAHA, yes, yes he did. I agree though. I would do a 4.56 or a 4.88. I am leaning towards a 4.88 myself b/c I know I am going to a 37 when these wear out.

4wheelparts.com has a gear ratio-to-tire chart. the chart also shows optimal gear ratios for a daily driver, towing, and something else. pretty interesting i thought...

Hello all, newbie here, I have been lurking for a while but this is my first post. I have been reading about your lift and tire combos. I just bought a 2001 Sierra 4.8 4x4 w/ a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires. The truck drives excellent and it is almost perfect mechanically, except for a small power steering leak. Last week I took my family to Big Bear and it was falling on it's face on the freeway. It shifts back and forth from OD to 3rd when I go slower than 75. At 80 it would hold OD but it would still bog down. Up the mountain it had to keep it in 2nd so it make power. I bought the truck from a used car dealer and they did not have the original window sticker, so I am assuming that it has 3.73 gears but I don't know. This truck is mainly to be used on the highway to take me and my family to the desert every other weekend then launch and retrieve my boat when I am there. My boat is already there so I won't be towing much, if at all, and it will not be my daily driver or will it ever go off road, I have a jeep cherokee for that purpose. My very ignorant question is, should I think about regearing it to 4.56 or should I just save the money and drive in 3rd on the freeway to hit the powerband? Thanks in advance for your help and I apologize if I sound lame...
