Well, it's time to replace the OEM wiper blades on my '02 Z71 Silverado. What do ya'll recommed and why? How many $$?

Thanks,

James.

The factory wiper blades sucked a$$ . I got rid of them inside of a month. Should have gone for warranty on em. Might as well have taped a brick to the wiper arm. The teflon ones I replaced the standard with were almost as bad  .

FINALLY, PIAA came along. These are the SH*T! About $20 each, and, you can get refills. They work VERY well, and even look nice (for wiper blades :wtf: ).

The PIAA wipers have gotten great reviews...

I still have the stockers on my truck, and I'll consider them when I change them out (soon).

I'm running RainX blades on my wifes van, and they seem very good.

GO with the PIAA's although pricy you will never regret it.

I to had problems with the orignal blades and bought refills for them what a joke they scratched my windshield and did not work for Visibility .

I bought the carbon fiber PIAAS, they look great they work Excellent no problems what so ever (except price) $80bucks CDN for the pair.

Thanks All,

Ok, I'm looking at the PIAA wiper blades. It appears that there are 3 choices for my truck. They have a Super Sporza Silicone Winged, Super Silicone Curved, Super Silicone Wiper.

I don't like the idea of a wing sticking up from my wiper arm and the curved appears to be destined for sports car usage. So, I;m leaning towards the regular wiper. Do ya think I'm picking the right one?

Thanks Again,

James.

I put 2 sets of stock refills on my ride before the arms started looking pretty worn/discolored. I then went with Anco Aerovantage blades. Fairly reasonably priced and good performance. I tend to keep my glass cleaned up and protected, so I don't use them too much.

OK, sorry to keep asking more questions, but does anyone know of a place in the DFW area that stocks the PIAA wiper blades? I check the store locator on the PIAA site and it does not list any. I have searched google for on-line sources, but I really don't like to order via the web if I can avoid it.

Do any of ya'll know of a reputable on-line dealer if I can't find any local?

Thanks again,

James.

Rain X is great, if you haven't tried it yet. Needs to be reapplied every month or so, but I don't even use my wipers anymore.

Late to the game, but I LOVED the SilBlades I had on my old truck. Used them for 4, yes FOUR, years. Swapped them out for winter blades this past winter, for the first time, and never put them back on, I traded the truck in. Place that makes them is local to me, but they may sell nationally. www.sspinc.com is the site for them. The wipers carry a 5 year warranty last I checked, regular is $19 per blade, ultra (with painted/clear-coated frame) is $22 per blade, and I believe that's including shipping.

Another vote for Rain-X washer fluid and whatever wiper blades.

The only time I use the wipers is

  • to Apply Rain-X / clear dust/dirt from windshield
  • when I'm in stop and go traffic

I've been using Rain-X since the OEM fill ran out. The OEM blades lasted me until about 65,000 miles.

After reading this thread I have 2 questions.

1) How well do those Bosch or PIAA wipers handle snow/ice, etc. or are they purely warm weather blades and need to be swaped out in the winter?

2) I've used RainX that you apply but never the stuff in the washer fluid. Does that stuff get all over the paint and other windows and leave hazing or streaks?

Thanks

1. Bosch work great here for Michigan winters

2. I use the RainX you apply to the windshield with a rag, I don't want that crap on my paint and plastic trim. The washer solvent version is for those who don't want to work as hard IMO :):chevy:

    • Correct.  2019-2020 are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.   The recall engines 2021-2024 are serviced with 12740076.     What the difference is between the two, I'm not sure, but 2019-2020 only show 19420611 as the replacement engine p/n.
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
