black nerf bars

I need some advice on black nerf bars. I am currently looking at the Westin Platinum black nerf bars but wanted some opinions on them and suggestions of others to look at. I hate the looks of nerf bars altogether (I need them because my wife is just too short to get in my truck) so I am looking for something that doesn't stand out at all. I would prefer the bars to be tucked up and in but I don't like the looks of the n-fab bars because I think the steps look like they belong on the side of a motor home and they are too expensive (I'm looking to stay under $350 - will install myself). What do you guys think? Are the Westin Platinum black bars my best bet?

I can't help you with picking out black nerf bars, but if you are concerned with appearances, I'd suggest stainless, especially since you live here in Ohio.

Nerf bars get scratched. Ohio uses salt. Stainless takes a lot longer to look messed up than something more rust prone.

I'd also suggest getting full length bars that run from wheel well to wheel well. I didn't think about it when I got mine, but having them would make getting something that's in the middle of the bed near the cab a whole lot easier.

Good luck!

Makr sure no matter what kind you get that if you go black, get power-coated. Anything else will chip way to quick and look bad fast.

I just got a set of the westin oval ones (aluminum lifetime warranty). I currently have the westin signature series and at 4 yrs i am having rust issues. I paid $271 plus $14.99 shipping from JC WHitney (This price includes 15% off coupon I had). The original bars which i am replacing were $250 installed

Heres the ones I got

Thanks for the info. I am leaning towards the Westin Platinum since they are stainless. I would think they would be ok as far as rust goes (depending on what grade stainless they are), but can anybody who has had these for awhile verifiy that they aren't showing signs of rust? Scratches are a concern also, but since I don't like the looks of the nerf bars, I think the black ones will stand out less and therefore are a must. Does anybody make anodized aluminum nerf bars? I wonder how they would hold up. Keep the info coming  !

RyanbabZ71,

I have the nerf bar decision down to Westin Platinum black and Westin oval step tubes in black but can't quite decide. The only pics I've seen of the ovals are on HD models. How do you like yours? Do they tuck up pretty close to the body on LD trucks? Do you have any pics? My primary concern is having bars that don't hang way down or stick way out so I am trying to compare the two Westin variants based on that.

I like the Westin's too and that is what I will go with when I put them on. The N-Fab ones look nice but being they don't bolt to the frame I dismissed them.

My Westins on my 2000 Silverado are doing well here in VA. They are black. The truck is parked in the garage and we do not have as much snow as elsewhere. They are easy to install.

Greek,

Which ones do you have? Platinums, Signature Series, or Oval Tube Steps? Do yours stick up pretty close to the body? Do you have any pics?

I have a set of black crinkle powder coated Westins on my Tahoe. I have had them for 1 year and they still look like brand new. The finish is great, gives traction on the part without the step and is very durable. We don't have rusting issues down here, but no chips even on gravel roads.

Unless I'm looking at the wrong ones, Summit has the aluminum oval tube steps in black for $185.95 in the latest catalog. When I looked up the part # online, it said so see the application guide (which was nowhere to be found).

(Edit: Westin's website says for '00-'04 extended cab 4-door Silverados to use the 22-0025 bar and 22-1085 mount kit. That's the part that Summit lists for $185.)

I have the same issue with the short wife who's sick of having to jump up into the truck. I don't really like the looks of the steps, so I want something that doesn't stick down too far, but it still has to give her something to step on.

Well, I just ordered the Westin Platinum stainless black bars from a local ma and pa truck accessories store. I got them to match Pep Boys price of $265. I was pretty pleased about that. They are supposed to be in tomorrow. Hopefully I'll like the way they look. I'll take some pictures when I get them installed.

I havent put mine on yet

Scooter check the price because it most likely doesnt include the mounting kit. If it does that is a great price

I have been looking into getting nerf bars for a while now. Does anyone make them without steps. If they do I can't find them. I want plain black bars on the side of my truck, not steps.
