Stickers coming off

I've got an rather unusual thing happening with my truck. Last month I was washing the truck and noticed the "4x4" stickers on the rear of the bed were peeling up...I thought nothing of it and decided I would point it out to the dealer the next time I'm there. Two weeks ago I was washing it again and one of the 4x4 stickers came clear off and I easily peeled the other side off with no effort - this is in Alaska where we finally high 49 degrees yesterday...not Florida. I wouldn't think they should come off that easily.

Yesterday I was washing my truck and the one of the LS stickers on the back of the cab behind the passenger door peel right off as I was washing it with a mit. I looked at the other one and it had already started to peel from the top down. Any thoughts before I take this to the dealer? It isn't that I mind not having them on there as I don't care...just want to be sure it wasn't wrecked previous to the sale or have a paint problem before it's too late.

I wouldn't get rid of my truck for anything as it's been trouble free with the minor exception of the stickers...I just don't want to wash it in a couple more weeks and have the rubber come off the tires

My 4x4 stickers came off my truck too... But I wasn't washing it at the time. I was pointing the hair dryer at them and carefully peeling them away!!!

You're the first one I've heard of that removed their stickers by accident!!!

I hear ya...I had read several times where guys were removing their sticker or asking for advice on this site how to remove them. Looks like I got an extra option with the truck that I didn't have to pay for - Optional Sticker Removal within one year of Purchase...simply wash and remove

Yeah - Something ain't right with that. These stickers are not made to come off without a fight - typically a hair dryer and other things are necessary to get them off. Are they coming off of your 2004 model? Look at all the old Z71's that still have their stickers on - something ain't right! I, too, would be concerned that there was some kind of paint work done after the truck departed the factory line. Are the stickers only peeling off on one side? If so, suspect something and take it back to the dealer. I would also take it to an independent body shop - they'll be able to tell you if it has had any paint work done!

I peeled my 4x4 stickers off with just a fingernail. Each side took 5 min tops. I think the truck looks alot cleaner now w/o those cheesy stickers!

I'm using the same pressure washer I've used on all my vehicles and never had a problem. What I noticed on the sticker was they were literally "chipping" off as I washed it with the mitt or the pressure washer...either had the same result. The LS plastic stick-on was delaminated about half way down the sticker and the other one had started to peel. I'm taking it to the dealer on Friday and can't wait to see the look on their face when I hand them a handful of stickers/decals.

I don't expect them to be replaced as I don't care if the truck had it or not...just want to be sure it wasn't repainted prior to sale and then a poort sticker/decal job. I'm also going to take it to a local body shop for a second opinion...I just ASSUMED that the dealer made me divulge any accidents with my trade-in rig and thought they had to do the same. Who knows, perhaps it has something to do with that free "Paint Protection package" they gave me....

Fortunately, the 2500 decal seems to be on there nice and strong...until I break out that pressure washer and cotton mitt.

And for any of you GM bashers lurking out there, no, I'm not mad or upset as I throughly love this trouble free, defect free truck, and if this is the worst problem I ever have, I'll consider it a bonus from the factory as I didn't have to remove them myself. After all the problems I had with my previous truck (Ram CTD), this isn't even a bump in the road of life.

Went to the dealer today and he had no explanation what so ever. Swore it was never in an accident, damaged during shipping or any repainted what so ever. Even showed me the "report" of when the vehicle was received off the barge from Seattle, and everything looked good. They offered to put new stickers back on the truck and then offered a free oil change for my hassles.

I told them I'd like to have the LS cab decals installed but they could skip the "4x4" stickers. I also thanked him for the offer of the oil change but I do my own whereupon he asked for a moment and then reappeared from the parts department with a free oil filter and air filter - now that's service!!

He had to order the LS decals and said would call when they came in...and that if I ever had a problem like this again to please come in ASAP so they can try to see what's happening. He said it shouldn't be a pressure washer issue as their lot guys hit their vehicles with alot more water pressure than my little one can put out, thus it may have been just bad stickers or ??? He really didn't have an answer but did have a solution and fantastic customer service/satisfaction. My old Dodge dealer would have an an armful of excuses and no solutions. I'm fortunate that I've found such a great Chevy dealership!!

    • A complete delete is the most thorough mechanical solution, but it is also major engine work. On a quiet truck that is still under extended warranty, opening the engine purely as prevention is difficult to justify. A plug-in disabler stops commanded cylinder deactivation, but it does not remove or repair the collapsible lifters, so it should not be treated as failure insurance. I would keep the oil full, document the maintenance, and have any persistent tick, misfire, or loss of power diagnosed promptly. If the engine eventually has to come apart, that is the logical time to compare an OEM-style repair with a complete delete. The right choice depends on the truck’s symptoms, warranty status, expected ownership period, and whether the engine already needs to be opened. We explain that decision in more detail here—full disclosure, this is our own guide: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler   One exception: some 2021 L82/L84 trucks have RPO YK9, meaning cylinder deactivation was already disabled in the factory ECM; on those trucks a plug-in disabler is redundant, although the AFM/DFM hardware remains inside the engine.
    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
