Well, I'm upset, my truck is in the shop...I noticed a small oil leak last week, brought it in to the dealer and they couldn't find where it was coming from, so they put some dye through the oil, and had me bring it back on Wednesday.   Turns out the leak is coming from the rear seal, so to get to it they have to completely remove my engine, replace the seal, and put it all back together.  So, I'm without my truck for a couple of days now   Oh yeah, GM won't give me a rental car because I'm only 23, and the law requires you to be 25 in my state    I'm old enough to buy my own truck, but not old enough to just rent one for a couple of days???  :idontgetit: I can't wait until Friday when I get my truck back, I miss my baby ;)

On a happier note, I'm getting my new tires on Monday, as long as my truck is out of the shop, which it better be!

So...anybody else had this kind of problem with the rear seal on the 4.3?

Hey man i feel for ya.

No S-10, but my Silverado had a front seal leak not long after i purchased it.

Fixed it under warranty, all is good now.

Blame your state government, NOT the dealer for that silly law.

I think the newer 4.3's have a one piece rear seal design that requires the motor be lifted out in order to be fixed.

One piece, but a different block design, so No, it does not apply to '95's.

In 1996 they went to a unified block and oil pan structure.  Essentially it's all one piece and not unboltable like the oil pans on '95's, thereby allowing you access to the seals.

Well, unfortunately '95's have their own 'can of worms' nuiances too that can be frustrating too!  So you're not completely out of the woods.

Man, I got a pretty mean oil leak (again) on my 84 S10 Blazer 4X4.  I'm gonna break down and take it in tomorrow.

I'd like to work on it myself, but I can't seem to pinpoint the leak (haven't really tried).  Oh well, hope it don't cost an arm and a leg.

If it's a seal, it may!  Those things were pretty packed.  It may require the engine to be lifted a few inches in order for to get the oil pan removed as it loops around the front drive axle.

I got my baby back last night!  :P The leak appears to be fixed successfully, there was nothing on the piece of cardboard that I put under the truck last night.  They did a good job, Shaver Motors in Merrillville, IN right off of Interstate 65.  I give them two big thumbs up, they've always taken care of me   On Monday I'm getting rid of the stock Tiger Paw tires and getting Michelin LTX M/S tires installed.  I'm going from a 205/75/R15 to a 225/70/R15.  This shouldn't change the speedo too much, I really don't want to spend my money on a power programmer right now.  Wait a minute...what money??  :0
