Where and how to mount Amp's?

Hey all looking for info on mounting 2 amps in a 03 silverado extended cab. It looks like it will have to be on the passenger side due to the JL stealth box. Anyone mounted them in that location? Amp rack? Acrylic? any help

Hmmm... well on my old truck ('02 EC) I slid a piece of 3/8" MDF under the carpeting, and bolted an amp and cap down to it (through the carpeting) on the passenger side floor, next to the Stealthbox. You might need to trim out some of the padding where the board goes in order for the carpet to fit properly - I did NOT have to do this in mine. There was just enough excess to still cover everything and fit under all the trim pieces.

I'm thinking about scraping the the stealth box and going custom. Question, did you use dynamat on the doors? I know my stealth box on my old 97 rattled the crap out of the driver side cab. Anyone have any other ideas?

dynamat never hurts, and I put a few pieces on my door panels when I upgraded the speakers. It's surprisingly quieter now. I just have to figure out how to put some more dynamat on the liftgate to stop that rattling..

I have a persistent rattle somewhere in my sheetmetal but can't pinpoint it exactly... I'll find it though.

I like the job you did on your truck wing. Any reason you didn't dynamat the back of the cab?

I did. I just did it after I put the amps in, so I could cut around them. I just didn't take a picture.

FYI...Just keep in mind that if/when you go to put them in, there is an anchor strap (not shown in my pics) right in the middle of the floor that goes up to the bottom of the rear seat. It's a safety anchor that was added in 01, or 02...But it gets in the way of putting an amp right in the middle. Plan accordingly.

I have mounted most of the extend cab systems I have done i've mounted the amps to the back wall there is alot of room.

I also added the amp right to the back wall. Just cut out the insulation around where the amp is going to go. I found out about the anchor in the middle the hard way. Just had to moung the amp a little bit higher. I have also seen people mount them under the rear seat....but since I have the sub on one side and the GPS unit on the hump, I wanted to leave the other side for my toolbox. That pretty much only left the back wall free. This way the amp is out of sight and there really is plenty of room back there. I have a 6 channel JL mounted on the back and its not too small of an amp.

It doesn't flip down, you have to take it out.

It's 5 nuts (4 if you don't have the center anchor)....18mm I believe. Two on each end, and one in the middle (bottom). Then you have to lift it straight up. Really a two person job to get it out of there, but it can be done alone with a little sweat.

Really easy to do.

Here is how I did mine. 2 small 1" strips, one on top, one on bottom. Liquid Nailed them to the rear wall (didnt want to drill into back wall). Cut a 2'x4' piece of 3/4" MDF and used that as a screw in point for the amps. Painted it black using "fleckstone" paint. Mounts perfect. Here are a few pics.

that turnerd out really nice. I was lazy and just drilled through the back wall. so now I have 4 holes in the backside of the truck.....but no water gets in that way

I realize this is an old thread...really really old...but I'm looking for information to decide what I want to do with my 2004 Silverado and this crap called sound coming out of my Bose setup. The board you have mounted on the back, how much clearance does that leave when the seat is put back up? I have 2 strobe power supplies and a siren unit id like to also mount that way. Its very clean and professional looking. I just don't remember there being much clearance behind the seat, even without the board.
