Check engine light.

After changing the oil last night, I decided to clean the throttle body. I took off the intake hose and sprayed some SPT throttle body cleaner into the throat with the engine off. Then I had my wife start it up and I was spraying some more in with her trying to keep it from stalling. To get a little more off I, with the engine off, I sprayed a rag with cleaner, and manually work the butterfly to rub the rest off. Then had her start it again to just spray a little more and clean everything up. Well, now the check engine light is on steady. It runs perfect, nice and smooth. I was thinking that spraying the cleaner may have trigger a few sensors and too maybe just let work itself out. Although, I can't stand to see that light on. Is there a set period of time? I would rather not pull the battery cables if it will clear on its own.

The computer will keep checking for the problem that set the code, after like 5 cycles (varies by the severity of the code), it will turn the light off but will keep the code in memory. Disconnecting the battery will not clear the code. Probably an 02 sensor code, clogged from the cleaner, it should burn off and be fine!

:chevy: When I first got my 2000 Z-71 truck (used @ 44000 mi) I did some cleaning and forgot to hook up the elect connection to the MAF sensor before moving the truck from the street into the driveway. The check engine light came on and would not clear. I disconnected the battery cable and let it sit for a few hours, then hooked it back up----still had the light. Later that day, I left to go hunting and when I got there (about 65 mi) the light was still on, BUT when I started it up after a few minutes to move the truck, the light cleared. Been off ever since (almost 1 1/2 years ago) Guess the computer needed some time to "re-calibrate" itself.

It went out when I left work yesterday. Good thing it didn't take 50 cycles.
