Not to get off topic, but the GTO is also getting the same motor. Almost makes you wonder if they were not quite ready with the motor or the politics of putting the motor in another vehicle until the corvette was ready for production.

Actually the GTO is a Gen III LS1. The differences are minor, but the GTO is a 5.7L, where as the LS2 motor is a 6.0L motor.

Thats just how it works. If you look at the history of GMs major engines, LT1, LS1, LS2 they have all seen Corvette drivelines before anything else.

LT1s first appeared in Corvette in 1992, while the Camaro and Firebird wouldn't see an LT1 until later in 1993 with the body change.

LS1s would first appear in Corvette in 1997, while the F-body crew would have to wait one more year. At least the new motors would eventually make their way to the other cars. How about motors like LT4 that would never see a full production line in anything else except Corvette?

I think 3BAV meant that the '05 GTO will have the LS2

Yes sir. Sorry, should have clarified.

With all these vehicles getting the basically same LS2 as the "base" Corvette, makes it even more likely the next Z06 in '06 will have a great increase in power. Hopefully 500hp or more! Maybe a true SS reg cab Silverado will be around the corner! Sort of an exciting time for a GM fan, IF they come out with power-based vehicles and not soccer mom, grocery getter vehicles. Chris

Yup.. :D The new ZO6 will debut one year later than C6 (2005) and will be approx 500HP. A 427cid motor is in the works...this may or may not be the next ZO6 motor.

Despite the ZO6 producing 100 more hp...I'll always be a ZR-1 guy :D
