Adding Amp + Sub

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, its so confusing with all of these threads on which parts work with what models and crap. I have a 2003 Silverado regular cab without the bose speaker system. I want to put a sub in,but space is very limited plus i want to keep factory head unit. What parts would i need to keep the stock head unit and add this sub. Also what are myoptions as far as the sub?

Thanks!

I have a 2002 chevy reg. cab and have one 12" rockford fosgate p1 sub in a box for a single sub for a reg. cab truck with a 300 watt amp and sounds great. Its not the hardest hitting system but gets the job done for me. I used to run it with the stock radio but I just recently changed to a pioneer head unit which made it sound even better. :jester:

That's what I would do in a reg cab. Put an amp behind the passenger seat, and a 10, or 12 inch woofer behind the driver seat.....And call it good.

The only other equipment you will need (besides wiring and mounting hardware) will be an adapter to incorporate a sub into your stock stereo system. You can pick these up for under $20.

Like he said....It aint going to be vision jarring...But it will be pretty f'n loud in there.

I've had 2 12's behind the seat in a reg cab, and it was overkill for sound quality purposes.

Oh and ridnlow, he said that he didn't have Bose.

JBL makes a d**n good amp with speaker input wires, so you wouldn't have to get that converter wingnut was talking about. I think that it may be a discontinued model though. It's the BP300.1 It puts out 150x1 @ 4 ohms, 300x1 @ 2ohms, and is 1 ohm stable, although it still puts out 300x1 @ 1 ohm.

Check sounddomain.com for this amp, or ebay.com it was a killer three years ago, and it's still a killer today.

And by the way, JBL rates alot lower than it actually puts out, kinda like kicker. Most people test this amp to rate an actual 390 to 420 watts instead of the 300 watts. I could tell you the peak power, but it's dang near useless, and a little problem of I don't know what the peak power of this amp is :jester: But hope I helped some.

Check your local stereo joints, they almost always have them. I'm not talking about Best Buy, or Circuit City either....A real stereo shop. They should have a box under $100 (a bit more if you want a speaker in it though :puke: )
