pwr window broke

My driver side power window broke last night. Just a big POP noise. I was able to drive to work today because I can still pull it up all the way, but it will not roll up or down with the button. anyone ever fixed one before?

Odds are it is the regulator cable. Mine went and I replaced the regutator assembly. Got one real cheap off ebay and it was a simple bolt on installation. If you have big hands like me you'll end up with some cut up knuckles but a pretty easy job. I used a block of wood to hold up the window until the one off ebay arrived.

ok yall, I took it to the dealer who said it would "probably be around $375 to fix". said the whole thing came together in one package and that that's why it is so expensive.

I get frustrated with people not reading posts to questions presented...As I stated, get one off ebay for $35 - $40 and bolt it on!!!! It's just a regulator. Why ask the question if you don't heed the advise??????

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

well, it's not that funny, but mine busted a week ago. i took of the door panel

(for those doing this for the first time, pull the panel UPwards after unbolting the 2 screws. pulling out like older styles will break. these hooks go in, then down, whereas some older ones just went in and spread...)

.... and saw the wires hanging loosely. mine took full impact, loss the wire that pulls the window down, and the one that pulls it up. after about 2 hours i got them reattached, and pushed the button just to find that the motor was all tangled up. so i ordered a new one on eBay for $60 (there are a ton on ebay right now. i should have bought 2!)

Hopefully it will arrive within a couple days, i'm expecting a 30-60 minute project reinstalling it. doesn't look to hard.

considering how little you can make worse, it's definately one of those projects that are worth trying to do yourself, even if you are a neofite like myself. if you can't figure it out, then pay someone. but if you carefully take off the door panel there is nothing that you can break worse so it's worth trying...

relax, I did need the advice. I just went to the dealer to see how much it would be. (I try to do that for everthing just to see how much they rape you) Fixed it myself though. did it your same way, except the bloody knuckles. thanks everyone. :puke:

Weird how these should be so much at the Dealership.

List on these was 166 and change, .6 hrs for labor.

Buddy had one done recently after they told him his 2001 Yuke

was still in warranty, then charged him 2.5 hrs. for the right

front window. What a boner. You can do these yourself they

are a snap!

Have a great on!

my right side power window was on its way up when the darn cable broke. The broken end is all untwisted and tangled in the motor gears. I did order a new one off Ebay for under $40.00. Next step is getting the old one out when the cable is broke and stuck. I'll probably take some time out to try it tomorrow. Hopefully when i disconnect the window from the clamps i'll be able to pull the whole assembly out through the opening in the middle of the door. I called dealership too and was quoted a price of $385.00 and i don't know if that included labor or not. With these cables breaking like they are I might want to order a left side too! Good luck to all of you enduring this task.
