03 Z71 Suburban How do flares come off

I am looking at having the flairs smoothed and painted black. Does any one know how they come off

There are two types of fasteners along the flares' inner edges.

 

The two piece caps require gently twisting a flathead screwdriver to remove the center portion. Once the center is out, the bottom pops out. These are reusable.

 

The single piece ones will get destroyed as you remove them. Since these caps are easy to find at Autozone, Pepboys, etc. your best bet is to drill out the head and push the shaft through the hole. Otherwise a set of pliers and a lot of cussing is required.

 

These are the bits I had to remove to add mudguards using as many factory holes as possible.

 

Not sure what else holds the flare on - tape on the upper edge perhaps?

Yep,tape on the upper edge is what holds them on up top.Either do it out in the hot sun or heat them up with a heat gun and they will come off alot easier.

Is it standard 2 way tape or is it sometinhg I will have to get from a dealer.

You can use 3M double sided foam tape. You can get it at any good parts store.
