Spark Plug Wire Set Length

Hi All,

I've been reading a TON on here about spark plug wires. I've finally decided to put on some MSD 8.5mm super conductors -- I've got 70,000 miles on my Yukon now and just want to replace the factory wires.

My question is, though -- what length MSD wires do I need to get?

The OEM wires from teh factory are Packards, and they're only 8" wires.

However, I've been told that I need to get MSD wire P/N 32829 for the red wires or 32823 for the black ones -- but, these are 12" wires. MSD makes 8" wires like thsi for the Vette and Camaro (P/N 32819 for red and 32813 for the black) -- which ones should I buy?

Will the performance be hurt at all by switching from 8" to 12" wires? Also, I've read on here where people are talking about wire looms. My truck didn't come with any wire looms because the wires were nice and short. So, if I had to get 12" wires, would I need looms somewhere -- where would this extra wire length go? Would it just stick out?

Please help -- especially anyone who has switched to MSD wires.

Thanks.

I bought the red MSD 8.5 wires from truckperformance.com, I input all of my vehicle information and they came up with the part number. The wires that I got are slightly longer than the stockers, I don't know about 4" longer, but they are definitely longer. I twisted the end that goes on to the coils slightly counter-clockwise and they fit with no problems. Theoretically, more length = more resistance, but I don't think that we'll ever experience any issues with our application. Overall, I'm very happy with the wires, I left the original heat shields off, and have no melting issues, plus, they look cool. Don't expect to feel any diffence in performance though, if there is any, it's so nominal that you'll never notice it in a daily driver. But, they do look cool, and are about the same price if not cheaper than the original equipment.

Rookie -- I just bought the MSD 8.5mm super conductor wires (Red) for 54.99 + 9.99 s/h from truckperformance.com

That was the cheapest I could find (Performance Products, Advance Auto, etc. were all higher).

I plan to install the NGK tr55 copper plugs, as well, and change them out every 30K miles (I'm getting the cheap plugs that are less than $2 each).
