Phoenix area

I am looking into a job in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Never really been there except going through the airport. So basically wanted to know if anyone lives, has lived or knows anything about the area? Is there plenty to do? What is there to do in the area? Also what would you think about living there?

Basically I have been looking for a job for a while and it has been going no where. This is the first time I am actually getting some where and it sounds like a nice job. Basically I just want to make sure Phoenix is not a hell hole before I go too much farther with the interview and job negotiation. I am not sure if I will get a chance to check out the area much before I would have to say yes or no to the job. If I do get a chance to go down there, what should I check out? Basically I have lived in Southern California and Denver, Colorado. I have no real ties to stay in Denver but really like it here. Any input would be great, thanks in advance.

Basically the job is job site supersivor for a construcction company. I would be keeping track of a few job's schedule, costs, pre bidding stuff, it involves lots of driving around to sites and office work. SO it wouldn't be an outdoor all the time job. The valley I grew up in was 90 - 110 degrees all summer long, so heat is not a big deal. I am just more concerned about how nice people are (like people in Denver are friendlier than CA) and where or what areas of town are better to live in? Seems like all cities have areas that are a little better to live in without paying an arm and a leg for.

I am pretty active, I like to play volleyball, golf, fish, camp, hike, and so on. I am sure I can find rec volleyball leagues, golf is everywhere, I know there is some good fishing in AZ and place to go see. I am not too worried about those things. Though if anyone knows anything about things like that it be great to hear about them.

I've never lived there only visited a couple of times. My sister lived there for 2 years....she liked it, she moved back east because that's where all our family is. If you like winter I don't think I would recommed it. Although I went to visit her in december once.....it was nice to goto the pool in the middle of the winter

I also grew up in the valley of So Calif and from what I understand AZ is a quite a bit hotter. My bro lives in Vegas and he comments on the summer heat and AZ is hotter than there.

Had an uncle that lived out there 20 years until he passed away last year. He loved it as far as I could tell. He was into riding his harley and shooting sports, etc. I've enjoyed it the 3 times I was out that way. Definitely a bit toasty, but without the Ohio humidity, I can handle it.

I lived in the east valley for 10 years and it was great for a while! When I first moved out there in 1972 ( I know before most of you were born) Phoenix had some what of a small town feel to it, but over the time I was there it got to be big city. If you like to play it can be great and going from 15 to 25 there was the best. But if you stay year round you will learn to hate and I mean really HATE older people, they have no job, no reason to be in a hurry to go anywhere, so when you try and run to the store for something while you are at lunch they will block the shelfs in the stores and then stand and talk to this one and then someother one for a long time!! I finally left when I could no longer look at the desert and not see brown, even in the spring when it was green it still looked brown to me.

As far as neat things to do we would go to Payson which is about 90 miles from Mesa on January 1st and play in the snow and load up everyones trucks as full as we could and then go back home to have snowball fights.

HAHA reminds me of what people used to do in LA. Actually it did snow at my house in LA twice when I lived there but didn't stay for more than a few hours.
