Siping picture

Someone was wanting to know what siping on a tire is, and looks like, so take a look. I don't know if I got this set up right, yet, so let me know if it works, or doesn't. I'll put a picture in the picture forum once I have it tested. :notice:

I've had a digital camera for a few months, and just didn't take the time to learn how to use it. Now, I've been taking quite a few, so I'll be a postin' fool.

How much did it cost you to get that done, and where did you have it done?  I want to have it done to my tires, but haven't really looked into it yet, as I have no idea what it might set me back.

Coolsilverado, to make it a link that you can click on, click the "http://" button above in the "iB Code Buttons" box.  Then put the url in there, click ok, then but what you want the link to say (you can also just put te url again, then click ok.  When your finished with your post, it should end up like this.

Same gois for posting images, except you click the "image" button, add in the url for the image and that's it.  I'm not sure if picture trail will allow you to post images on other sites though.

Thanks for the info and comments!

I had the siping done at Peerless for $10 per tire. I am pretty sure Discount Tires does it, too. There are usually a few shop that'll do it.

Thanks for the help on the URLs MountaineerTom! I've been lurking around this board for quite some time, and started posting awhile ago because I love the board so much. Now, I'm trying to learn all of the ropes for posting and linking, etc! You guys are all great :(

Do you have a picture of before they wee siped?  I'm not familiar with those tires and I'm not sure what part has been siped.  :notice:  :(

Tom,

The very faint lines that run across the tires from side to side are the sipes.  They are the razor thin cuts in the tread blocks that really help on icy conditions.

Unfortunately, I don't have before pics. The siped parts are the cuts that run across the tread width, the opposite way of the channels, and they are very fine/small. I'll try to get a better picture of them once I have more light to work with, and I'll edit in an arrow.  :(

Well, they're not too obvious unless you know what you're looking for! I have a few buddies that wanted to see them, and they had a hard time seeing them in person!  :(

I don't know whether they really do anything, or not, but I am impressed with the tires/siping.

I've got the Michelin's on the front of my Aurora siped.  I think it made quite a difference.  I got to watch them sipe them and it's a pretty cool machine.

Then I went to NTB to pick up some tires for the G/F's car and asked them to sipe them and the guy looked at me like I had three heads.  I had to explain to him what siping was.
