how long has it been since:

you ran a FULL Scan Disk?

Defrag'ed all your hard drives?

Deleted all your internet Files, cookies, and cleared your history?

How l0ng has it been since you ran "disk clean up"?

Having too many files in your internet "memory" folder can actually SLOW down web page loading time.

Tools, Internet Options, "delete Files" button.......

after you did that, refresh the page......how many you you notice my new sig?

I kept the file location and name the same, so your PC just pulled up the image it had stored......what all ARE you missing on the internet?

Do this every 2-4 weeks!

And remember, Defrag AFTER you clean up old files.

I've run a FULL disk scan for corrupt files every other week since I got mine in April. I run a disk defrag on the C:/ every month. I also clean out the "cookies" and delete the Temporary Internet files after I'm done surfing the Web, which happens mostly every night. My files, folders, pics and music files are all checked for bugs every time BEFORE I use them. Finally, the C:/ is compressed, which gives me about 20% extra file space than if not compressed. The compression hasn't and does not negatively affect any of the files or programs that I have. I run MSN PopUp Blocker which traps and deletes any popup that I don't allow. It's about 98% effective, but it does that job well enough so that I don't get angry when the occasional one pops up (no pun intended). And McAfee VirusScan does a full scan every Monday on "auto-pilot", so I never need to manually turn it on.

All of this allows me to run at a faster processer speed and have more memory than if I leave everything alone.

I know this sounds as anal as all hell, but I think it's time well spent to prevent what could happen.

I do most of that about once a week. Some of it I only do once a month.

You really want to improve it, set all those temp directories/caches to a ram drive if you have enough memory. It will work faster and when you shut it off they are all gone.

There is a also a good little freeware program called System Security Suite (among others) that will nuke all these temp directories, caches, history, cookies etc. (all are selectable) and then restart the system.

I personally don't delete all my cookies as some I want to save. I do go in every few days and nuke the "extras"

I usually will also redo Windows about twice a year. As windows gets used and files become corrupt what I call "OS aging" occurs. So about twice a year I dump everything I onto another computer and reformat and start over.

Now at work the computers get reimaged depending on usage from once a week to everynight.

I dont run SP2. Had it on one computer and it messed up a lot of programs. That computer got Red Hat 9 linux last night.
