Jacking Front End At The Crossmember

I hope someone knows the answer to this. I'm looking for a way to jack the front end of my 1500 4x2 Silverado all at once. There are two crossmembers that go under the engine. One bolts to the frame (the rear one) and the other is welded (the front one). Is it safe to put a floor jack on either one of these to lift the front end off the ground to get jack stands on the frame?

I never saw it first hand, but I read on another forum about a guy who jacked up his truck by the engine crossmember and bent the crossmember and frame slightly. It was a little while ago. It was a NBS.

Yeah I do one side at a time and on the frame....there's something about being underneath a 3 ton truck that makes me not be lazy.

 ever see a car fall on somebody  its not cool. always support your vehicle properly :D It always helps if you have someone around to dial 911 too...And I'm probably the laziest person I know  But not when my life could be at risk.

I think it's fairly common knowledge that it's unsafe to work under a truck that is just supported by a jack. That wasn't my question. I was just wondering if it would hurt the crossmember if I jacked it up there while I placed the jack stands under the frame.

asepgrad98, Thanks for answering my question.

Hecktorx, Good point. I'll definately take that into consideration! :D
