2000 Tahoe squeaks

I have a 2000 new body style tahoe and while I'm cruising down a one way street I hear a squeaking noise as I'm rolling. I changed the front pads back in April and have about 10k on these pads. Any ideas on what it could be?

does it go away when you step on the brakes? if not, then it could be your u-joints. mine made a terrible sqeak when they went bad...

Yes I believe the squeak goes away when I step on the brakes. I have to make sure but I'm almost certain that it does

i have a 2000 yukon and i've had a suspension sqeak for a long time. it is audible mostly when driving slower (not at highway speeds) and when going over speedbumps or somewhat bumpier city streets/side roads. I have been unable to pinpoint it, but I think it's just suspension squeak... i usually try to spray some spray silicone on the rubber bushings and stuff every few months. that's dampens it for a bit, but it usually comes back. if you pinpoint what's causing yours, please let me know so I can check it out. it doesn't bother me too much anymore since I usually have my music up loud enough so I don't hear it.

i have a 99' silverado that does the same thing. i have 15k miles on my pads. mine makes noise only at slow speeds...then goes away when the brakes are applied. i've been told that chevy's are notorious for this....try ceramic brake pads. i would assume that the noise is from the bi-metallic pads. i plan on making the changeout within the next week or so. i'll let you know if that is my problem.

I have experienced squeaks from brake pads many times...sounds almost like the wear sensors are rubbing but ends up having something to do with the composition of the pads. Squeaks while driving and goes away when depressing the brake pedal. I also experienced noises from my rear parking brake shoes when the retaining clip broke and the shoes rubbed on the drum part of the rear rotor, but stepping on the brake didn't have any affect on that noise.

As far as the suspension squeak goes, I had an annoying squeak over bumps coming from the front of my truck and found the front shocks to be the culprits...actually had them replaced twice under warranty after the dealer said "no problem found" and I had to diagnose it myself.

Not sure if this is what you are experiencing, but just some of the things I have run into...hope it helps.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I actually have ceramic pads on the front. They are made by Morse and I got them from Autozone. My rear pads are good because I just changed them 2 weeks ago and I have heard the squeak noise for months. I'm going to take a look at the pads and see if something looks funny. I always hear the squeak after driving for a while. I'm clueless, maybe I'll just change the front pads again and see if it stops squeaking

Before you buy new pads, take a quick look at the old ones. I used to do alot of brakes when I was a Toyota tech, and these symptoms were fairly common. To diagnose if the pads were the problem, I'd remove them and sand em slightly, just to get a smooth surface and to try and compensate for inconsistencies in the semi-metallic particles. Then I'd road test it to see if the noise came back...it was usually good, but sometimes it needed a little more pursuasion. Every so often I'd come across a piece that was larger, sharper, and stronger than all of the others....it would rub on the rotor until the brake pedal was depressed. I've even seen them start to wear grooves in the rotor.

Do you still have your reciept for the pads? You should be able to return them if they're the problem. You could get a good set of ceramics, or maybe some hi-perf pads. I have Praise Dyno pads and rotors and love them. Stops on a dime, no squeak, and I never see dust build up...although I don't put a ton of miles on it and wash it once a week either. Great Customer Service too, very friendly and helpful.

Don't squeaks suck? They're OK for a dump truck or a train, but not for our hot rods. Good luck, hope you get it fixed soon.

My wife drives our 2001 Tahoe. An intermittent squeak started occurring. Never heard it when first driving it for the day, but after a while it would squeak when driving down the road. More noticable when going over bumps and on warmer days. Was finally able to reproduce it by just pushing up and down on the front bumper. I isolated it to somewhere in the left front wheel well. Brakes were fine. Just couldn't narrow it down. Wife got tired of pushing on the bumper while I was trying to find the source. Took it in to the stealer. Ended up being the upper rubber shock bushing. Of course I didn't think of that because the bushing is in the engine compartment. They replaced it and the squeak is gone, and so is 100 bucks.

I think I'm experiencing the same problem. However, it just started after I had the rear breaks and rear differnetial seal replaced. I thought Wheels Works f'd something up. Mine sounds like a metal to metal squeak.
