Side Window Visors

With the rains coming (and in Washington State that's 9 months out of the year  ), I think I want to add some side window ventshades. The question is who has the best or are they pretty much all the same? Looked at Lund, Auto Ventshade and Deflect-a-shield. They seem to all described as being made from Lexan and use 3M tape to attach.

Does the stick-on versions work any better than the snap-in style?

I have the Ventshade snap in ones and I'm very happy with them. Personally, I don't like putting tape on my paint, but that's just me. The fit is excellent and installation literally took about a minute. If I remember correctly, I got them from www.stylinconcepts.com. If you click on the link under the picture in my sig, you can get an idea of what they look like.

I have always used auto vent shades. My 95 Sonoma had them on. 9 years and the tape was still holding strong. I put them on my '04 Sierra. I am not as happy with them. They only allow you to have the windows basically "cracked" without exposing the window to blowing rain. IMO

I would stay away from the tape on ones. A Weathertech is a very good set. Have been using these and very satified with fit.

Had the stick on Autovent shades, they sucked, the tape kept coming loose. Now I have WeatherTechs, great set.

I am up in your neck of the woods, BC Canada... where a day of sun is a rare thing as you know... I have had mine for over a year now and love them.

I have the snap in track ones. I dont remember the brand but they fit right into the channel. I dont remember the last time I rolled up the windows to close all the way!

Good Luck

I had the stick-on type ones on the 92 for about 7 years. When I took them off (one of them broke in two) a couple of months ago, it took about 3-4 hours of arthritis inducing knuckle rubbing to get all the crap off of the paint.

My .02 would be to go with the snap-in type visor.

I have Weathertechs, the fit was loose. I bought a set for my wifes Honda at the same time. The set for the Honda was tight. When I put the set in the Silverado, there was almost no resistance. One day I was washing the truck and one fell right out. I called them and they sent some thin double stick tape to put on the edge that fits into the window channel. I got the stuff and said no way will this crap last. I called again and they said the tolerances on Chevy trucks varies greatly, and this is why they are loose. He said the next truck just like mine might have a 1/8 inch diff in the window channel dimension, he also said they had lots of complaints from Chevy truck owners and the tape works. I told him I wanted new parts. He said he would send me the passenger side that fell out only. They sent a complete set. I put the tape on the original set and so far they are staying in place, I have the new set in the basement. If the originals get loose again I will put in the new set. I guess you are taking your chances with Weathertechs, but they look a hell of a lot better than the taped on ventshades.

I wanted the in track ones. Ended up with the ventshade stick-ons. I wanted the ones for the ec windows also and since the only way they come is stick on, I figured what the hell. only had them for a couple of weeks but I am satisfied.

I have the Auto Vent snap-in visors on my '00 Sierra. The driver's side fits loosely but it hasn't come out or anything...just a loose fit. Still, I like the look better than that of the type that uses tape.

I have the Weather-Tech in channel visors on my 2000 Silverado. They fit well and look great. I also have a '93 Silverado and had to replace the VentVisor tape. As was stated above, a real PITA to remove the glue residue. Weather-tech are all I'll buy in the future. Mike

I have the same ones from Stylin Concepts. Have worked well for 7 years. I have a Yukon, so there are four pieces and they all work great. Would take 5 minutes to remove them if I wanted.

Once you install them, it takes a little while to get used to them. At first they seem to block your view on the A-pillar, but that feeling goes away.

Thanks for the replys folks!! It sounds like the WeatherTech snap-in ones may be a decent deal. I went out to the WeatherTech website and found they have a "dark" version along with a lighter one. My truck is black so I'm thinking that the dark ones might look a little better.

Does anyone know what the material is for the shades. The Auto Ventshade website says theirs is Lexan but refer to "acrylic" in some of their other pages. The WeatherTech site just says "acrylic".

Who can recommend a good vendor for WeatherTech??

I had WeatherTechs on my 2004 TrailBlazer. They quickly went back into the box because they didn't fit right. The window moulding would bulge, clips didn't want to clip where they should have been, and I was not happy with how they performed with the windows. Called customer service, they reported that 1 out of 10 TrailBlazers, their product will just not fit right  . Quickly sent my return info and am currently waiting on a refund. Don't get me wrong, WeatherTech's are great quality looking visors, but be warn that you may be one of the unlucky ones that it just won't fit. My suggestion would be to order straight from WeatherTech just in case you have a problem like I did. For a few bucks more than others, and I had researched for the lowest price, I would probably purchase from them again if I needed something.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
