Clunk at every stop.

Ok im trying to figure if the intermediate shaft recall apples to my year also. Whenever I take off from a stand still no matter how soft. I get a loud clunk noise. Is this the steering shaft sound that all of you are complaining about?

You notice the steering clunk when you are cranking the wheel around when parking, and / or going over bumps at low speed.

If you have a 4x4, it sounds like you're describing the slip yoke clunk. There's a revised nickel plated yoke available, but I'm sorry that I don't have the TSB or part number for you. Anyone?

What you're describing is "driveline clunk". A search here will give you enough reading for a week. Several solutions GM has come up with over time. Greasing the splines...quieted mine down for a while, but had to be done again when it started getting loud again. Changing your transfer case fluid to the new "blue juice"(Autotrac II fluid). Finally is the nickel plated yoke. I've had all 3 done on my truck and she's been quiet for a long time.

I had mine in yesterday for the steering shaft clunck. Mine does it on take off, going over bumps at slow speeds. I have a 2WD and it is definitely coming from the steering shaft. The part is on backorder for several weeks.

I had my tailgate cables replaced and the steering shaft lubed Tue. I had a rattle in the steering wheel during turns. Both slow and fast speeds. After the lube, it's nice and quiet for now.

How do you go about greasing the splines for the transmission clunk?

ok it turns out the passenger side motor mount bolts had wokred themselves loose, probably from the shift hit. A new lock washer and a dab of Loc Tite should straighten them up
