Temp Guage

I was driving on the freeway the other day here in Phoenix at 70 mph in a (roughly) 35 mph headwind. That gave me an approximate 105 mph "airspeed" (that's pilot talk for how fast the air is flowing over a vehicle). The outside temperature was about 55 degrees F. My question is this. When I pulled off of the freeway and pulled up to a stoplight I saw the temp guage go up about 15 degrees. Before it went up it was below normal reading. Is this normal? Was my truck being 'supercooled' or 'overcooled'? Nothing earth-shattering. Just want to know.

Yea,55 degrees in Phoenix!! Maybe it was 2 o'clock in mourning and it was raining?

I doubt your engine was being "super cooled" I sometimes drive in 0 degree temps with 30-40mph winds and my temp reads normal. I think either the gauge was getting a bogus signal or your thermostat is sticking. See if it happens again.

Ha Ha everybody. Yes, 55 in Phoenix. It had just rained and was windy as heck. It has even snowed here before, for your information. I've been paying attention to the temp guage and it seems to do it only when I drive on the freeway when it's cool outside. When I exit the freeway and stop the guage will go up a few ticks.

it seems logical to me. If you are traveling at high rate of speed forcing more air through the radiator it makes sense that it would displace more heat.
