Avalanche - Gas mileage

I found this forum from the Corvette forum which I post regularly.

I am picking up a new Avalanche on Saturday and wondered what type of gas mileage you are actually getting from this vehicle? What mods / chips to buy to improve performance? I order the leather seats but from reading these posts wish I had gotten the cloth and leather. Any other likes or dislikes for this truck?

I'm getting about 16 on average which I think is decent for 2.7 ton pickup.  The only wierd thing is the lack of a cassette player.  Not really a drawback, just strange.  haven't done any mods yet but plan to get the K&N soon.  Would llike to put Flowmasters on also.  i ordered mine with the cloth seats and they are very nice, very comfortable.  Overall I'm very pleased with my 'lanche.  It's just the kind of truck I need.

Good luck!  What color did you get?  Did you get the Z66 or Z71 pkg?

I got a black Z71 with every option available except roof rack and side steps or pipes. Doesn't this truck come with a high capacity air filter similar to the K&N? How long did it take to get your truck? I order mine in March and it just arrived.

Another from the Corvette Forum here. I post over there as Eddie 96.

I am wanting an Avalanche to follow me home so bad. If I run across the right one it probably will follow me home. Gotta be black, Z71, and loaded.

I believe the 4x4's are rated at 18mpg highway.  My wifes boss says his is getting better milage than his '00 Z71 that he traded in...  He loves everything about it.

He also has the full leather seat/sunroof and all the toys (LT package).  The sticker on his was .  Personally I like the full leather seats and that black and gold chevy bowtie embroidered in the seatback is really cool!!!  His is Indigo Blue metallic and is "sharp".

I just went through the first tank of gas in my new Avalanche and got 18.5 mpg doing mostly highway driving.  The sticker on it had a highway rating of 17 so I was pretty happy that it beat that easily.

Welcome Scottm,

A sunset orange Avalanche HUH?  I've never seen one in that color before except in pictures...  I bet it looks pretty good in person.

It seems like we have quite a collection of current and soon to be Avalanche owners  at GM-Trucks.com ...  That's pretty cool considering how new they are!!!

I'm jealous of all you current and soon to be Avalanche owners. I love them and want a blue, Z66, loaded. I'm going back and forth with either a Z66 or Z71. I have a Z71 Silverado right now and I'm not a hardcore 4x4 guy. In fact, mine hasn't been off-road, as is with most of them. I like how the Z66 has a torsion bar set up. That's what's attracting me to a Z66. Everything's the same except no transfer case or front diff.

I could take the ?k difference between the two and spend it on goodies.

Jpendlum,

I will tell you I went with the Z71.  The ride is nothing at all like the Z71 Silverado.  I find it almost car like on most roads.  The only thing I have found is that it does tend to be a little stiff on the larger bumps in the road.  I would have liked the Z66 tires and loadlevel feature on a 4WD, but that is not an option.
