Nothing against the Av owners, wish I could afford one, but what does everyone think of having a separate forum for the Av guys?  It seems like most of the posts in here lately are for the Avs.

Mike,

The Avalanches are running a Suburban chassis in the 1500 and 2500 forms (same drivetrain as most 5.3L guys have).  So alot of the stuff that is asked about them is relevant to the light-duty forum.  The Av owners have also had some very valuable input in relation to other posts.

Sure it might be really cool for the Avalanche owners to have a forum of their own, but I myself would miss having their input on non-Avalanche topics in the light-duty forum because it's all related...

This is a "new" truck, and I'd like to learn as much about it as possible...and I'm thrilled with the number of Avalanche owners that come to GM-Trucks.com.

Maybe as popularity grows and if/when we get the Escalade EXT owners here also, we can always add another sub-section if we have too....

Mervz has the final say, and if the Av guys want their own forum, maybe it can be done...  But in my opinion, I'd like them in Light-Duty.  (There is alot to learn).

Gosh, don't segregate us yet.  I know it's only half a truck (half an SUV, extended cab truck, crew cab truck, mutt, Heinz 57, man I'm getting a headache) but I got it because it was a truck, in my opinion.  Also, from what I've seen most of us Avalanche owners wouldn't have very much intelligent input if left to ourselves. :D

Seriously, most of the engine and performance related information I get is from pickup truck owners.  A lot of the rest I get from Suburban forums, but even the truck cab interiors have much in common.

Also, the Avalanche threads seem to be pretty well identified for those not interested.   I guess I kind of agree that a separate section for the Avalanche may be more appropriate when the number of owners gets larger.  On the other hand, the number of Avalanche specific posts may diminish as the newness wears off.

I agree as well, I would prefer to stay here and play with ALL of my friends!!  I can see where Mike is comming from, but I think breaking things up too much dilutes the info pool to everyones detrement.

Do you think EXT owners will hang out with the likes of us?

I'm sure they will...  the EXT (caddy) guys are no different than the C3 GMC guys...  Everyone wants a place to call "home", and as soon as there are more EXT's on the road I'm sure we'll see a few in here.

Unless it's determined that the useless Avalanche-specific info to good, truck-grade Av info ratio is too large, I say leave everyone together.  When I first found GMTC, I looked for the "Avalanche forum".  Seeing that it was lumped with the 1500/2500s, I thought, well, that makes sense.  With the 80-90% ties to the Suburban anyway, might as well leave it here.  And underneath the hood of our Av looks just like my dad's 2001 Silverado 1500 w/5.3L.

I also wanted to say I appreciate you die-hard utilitarian truck folks that use yours for "real" work, not just as a "nice ride" (not that there's anything wrong there either).  I just have a respect for folks that are out in their trucks everyday for their bread, not like those of us (like me) with a sedentary job (software engineer).

Party on!

Yeah...The AV's have it for this month but the similarities get it done for all of us!

Unless it becomes totally AV...let's stay together for the benefit of all.

Jon;

Here in NY we have to register the Avalanches with commercial plates. That is because it is considered a "pickup truck" by definition because of the bed and it also exceeds 5,000 lbs. Suburbans, Tahoes, and Escalades can have passenger plates because, even though they also exceed 5,000 lbs, they do not have a pickup bed and they are classified as "suburban" class vehicles.

My Chevy dealer told me that supposedly some people are trying to get the D.O.T. to change the definitions so the Av. and similar vehicles can have passenger plates. The biggest negative with having commercial plates are that we have to legally stay off the parkways.

For now, we're going to keep everything together.  It just makes too much sense, considering the only differnces is in the skin.

I'll tell you though. All you Av guys keep telling the other av guys to visit, and soon enough, you'll have your own forum. :D
