Avalanche deals?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have the fever pretty bad at this point. It just doesn`t seem to be going away either. I took a couple of asprin earlier and checked my savings account. That just made me sick to my stomach.

Probably the only thing that is going to help is to find a Blue Z71 Loaded out and do some trading. So what I want to know is, what kind of deals are being made. Are the dealers coming off of the sticker price any? Are they gonna give me anything for my 2000 Extended cab Z71 with everything? How are the best deals made? I have heard that some buy new vehicles over the internet from dealers? Has anyone done this?

Ok, I will stop now and let you guys try to answer one of these questions. Thanks for hearing me out. BTW, were going to Knoxville tonight so I will probably stop by and see what is setting on the lot. :(

It seems to me they are willing to come down.  Here in Colorado we have the John Elway "No Haggle" dealerships..........I managed to talk them down 3,300 bucks.  I ended up still not buying there since I was able to talk my local dealer down 4,000 and give me what I wanted on my trade.  I bought the z71 package with assist steps and cloth interior for 32,000 and they gave me 9,000 for our 2000 neon with 50,000 miles.  Not bad considering I only owed 8800.  So I made some on the deal.  : )

Got my Z66 for $5200 under MSRP, *then* another $5100 off for my GM Card rebate.   :0

LMK if you want to buy one from Austin, TX.

edit:  No trade.  Know anybody want to buy a '91 F*rd Bronco?  Taking any offer more than $3000 (what they offered me) :(

I bought mine here in NJ last week. I went to www.gmbuypower.com, found a dealer nearby that had the truck I wanted. Then I went to www.kbb.com, and got invoice price on the Avalanche and value of my trade.

Dealer sold me the Avalanche for invoice, he gave me $500 less than blue book for my trade, and I got 0% financing. Whole thing took an hour. I'm sure I could have saved a few bucks by going to a few other dealers, but this one had the truck I wanted with the options I wanted and my first color choice, so I called it a day, and signed the paperwork.

My advice is to decide how much you're willing to pay.  Start at www.gmbuypower.com to find what you're looking for options-wise.  This will tell you what people have on their lots.  Once you have a "target vehicle" in mind, you can print out an exact copy of what you'll find on the window--the famed "sticker price".  Note, too, that some dealers are adding $2000 as "dealer markup" on the window sticker.

Then go to edmunds.com or kbb.com or someplace and get the invoice price.  Don't forget to add the options back in.  Edmunds.com figures the markup from invoice to sticker and then reverse-applies that markup off the options to come up with an aggregate invoice price with options.  They (edmunds) claim that somewhere in the middle is the "fair" price, but obviously, you decide that.

Once you have your target (whether its invoice, invoice + $500, sticker - $2000, etc.) go to the dealer and say you're interested in buying that vehicle.  Take a test-drive if you haven't already--this shows interest.  Then offer the sales guy a few thousand less than your target so you can work up to that.  Likely he will start at the sticker and try to work down.  With the 0% financing now, this takes some of their bargaining out of the equation.  You need to know the absolute lowest you want on trade-in too.

Anyway, my bottom line advice is to know what you're willing to pay, and stick to it.  When we were "negotiating" on our Avalanche, he had come down twice to $38,400 (he started at $44k!), and I still wouldn't budge.  We weren't willing to pay more than $36,000, and I wasn't gonna let him in on less than $35,600.  He told me (when presenting me the $38,400 as his "lowest price possible") that he had not sold an Av for less than $38,400.  I told him "Today may be your first!"  Serious!  My wife was holding back the laughter.  I told him I wasn't willing to pay more than $36k, that that was a fair price (for the vehicle we got with the options we got), and that if that didn't suit them, we'd have to shop elsewhere.  He "gave it one more shot" with his manager, and we were ready to walk.  He came back and I thought we'd be going home Avalanche-less, and he said, "Congratulations, you have yourself a deal."

In my opinion the numbers ($) aren't important here.  You have to do your research, decide what's fair (both on total price, and on your trade-in) and then not budge.  Word is that there are lots of dealers willing to sell you trucks.  You just have to find that dealer.  In the end, I'm glad our dealer "dealt", 'cause going back there for service is convenient.

Hope this helps.  BTW, edmunds.com has a whole section on "how to deal/buy a new car" that we found quite useful.

Forum Members,

I want to take second and let you know what I have in mind for you in the way of pricing.  I really want to set up a program in which you guys & gals can purchase a Chevy Truck for a good no hassle deal.  So you can buy with confidence and ease I am going to set up a pricing structure where you can buy something out of my inventory or factory order for $100 to $300 over my dealer invoice depending on the model (except Duramax which would be $1,500 over invoice).  From there you would get whatever rebates or APR program is applicable at the time.  Once again I can order you a truck and have it drop shipped to your local dealer.  Here is a look at what I have in inventory.  If you have any questions on my inventory or pricing please let me know.  Once again, I will have my new website up soon in which you can get more detail on my inventory and it specifics.  Thanks I think this will work out great!

I used an online service... www.stoneage.com

Put in what I wanted, a fully loaded 2500 4x4, dealer called me the next day and told me one would be in in a few weeks, it got delayed due to haveing to ship through NYC shortly after 9/11  ended up getting it for a hair over 35k about $4500 below sticker, no trade, and I've had my Av for about 2 months and still have yet to meet my salesperson...*shrug*

He was off the day I picked up my truck...He keeps sending me letters with business cards and apologizing that he wasn't there to meet me when I picked it up.  All in all, it was a pleasurable experience. I would reccommend it to anyone.

New guy checking in here...

Just picked up "Max" my 2002 2500 Avalanche - Loaded 39,634 + 500 Brush guard (I am installing myself) - Paid about 5k under MSRP and got a FANTASTIC trade-in deal on my 55k mile 92 Z71 extended cab (mint cond).  Plus the dealer is going to help sponsor our SCCA Roadracing team!

It pays a little to go out of the big city (I live in Minneapolis) and I went to Thurk Bro's Chevrolet in St. Bonifacious MN.  Tim Thurk - straight shooter - no BS.  Beautiful Indigo Blue Avalanche..   :(

The dealers in town were willing to knock a couple-G off the MSRP but they wouldn't even think about taking trades.

:(

I just bought my Avalanche last night.  I had the Kelly Blue Book invoice price in hand and a lot of confidence from reading this thread.  I got my White, Z71, fully loaded (no sun roof) for $1600 below invoice and 0 down and 0% interest 3 yr loan.  It took a total of about an hr of haggling with the saleperson and the load officer.

I live in southern CA.
