Help me decide which gear ratio

I am getting a new 2005 1500 crew cab.

should I get the 3:42 or 4:10.

I only put on 8-10K miles per year and

about 750- 1K is towing a 3K lb boat.

I also have a 30 ft camper on a permanent

site that I need to be able to move if needed.

It weighs about 6000 lbs.

The 3:42 is rated for 7400

The 4:10 is rated for 8400

I've got an 04' 5.3L 4x4 with 4.10's. I drive 60 Miles a day half city (10-35mph) and highway (70-80mph) and i'm getting a constant 16mpg. I'd go with 4.10's.

Get the 4.10's, there better for the tranny. Plus you'll hate the 3.42's if you ever put taller tires on.

You got that right! I have the 3.42's and 285's and boy what a difference. Just putting my ATV in the back I have to drive in 3rd gear.

Add in another vote for the 4.10. I really don't think you'll see much difference in gas mileage. For gas mileage, a 4.10 running in high gear pulling will beat a 3.42 running is a lower gear in the tranny.

GO WITH THE 4.10!!

If you use it more as a "car", then the 3.4's make sense.

If you use it as a "truck" and "tow", then the higher numeric (4.1's).
