Tonight I was driving back from my gf's apartment and noticed a friend of mine was pulled over by the poe-poe, and they had him and the 2 passengers out of the car.  He drives a nice Acura Integra.  Eventhough it's a ricer, I still like the looks of any car done up right.  It's a lime green 4 door with white rims and white leather interior.  Maybe the cops pulled him over for the paint choice. HAHAHAHA.  But seriously, almost every time I see a cop that has pulled someone over it's almost always a young person.  Are they just trying to show their power and rough up a few kids or what.  Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate all of the dedicated law inforcement officers out there who do their job day in and day out and receive no recognition for a job well done.  I just hate seeing these cops haulin' a$$ all over, well over the speed limit, and kids getting tickets for 3 miles over.  Sorry about the long post, but I hope someone else has noticed this and it's not just me.  By the way, aren't cops supposed to have their lights on when they travel over the posted speed limit???

I too appreciate the work that they do...  but I do have a problem when I'm running 70 on the interstate and they close on me and pass me like I'm sitting still (no lights/siren)...   It's a dangerous situation!!!

There's a guy in the National Motorist's Association (www.nma.org) who has begun writing down the license/car number of every California police car he sees speeding without the lights on.  Then he goes to the relevant police station (city, county, state trooper, etc) and files a written complaint.  Evidently by California law it has to go into that officer's permanent file.  He was encouraging others to do the same, but I'm not sure how Texas law or other state's laws work.  Also, who has the time to do this regularly?

But, it's an interesting idea.

I have noticed the exact same things describe.  When I was younger (high school particularly) I was regularly pulled over for the slightest infraction, then hassled by the cops until they realized they had nothing and sent me on my way.  I was usually driving some kind of beater, it was all I had back then.  Now that I'm "respectable" I rarely get pulled over, unless I'm breaking the law.  And even then, I think I can get away with a little more when looking a little older, a little more "respectable, and driving a nicer vehicle.

kind sucks, but at least there's some advantage to getting older!

Jeff

PS  I'm only 29, so don't go thinking I'm some geezer...

Newbie:  Nope it was a Colonie Police near the circle in Latham.  But the cemetary there on 7 is another nice hang out for 'em.  I always just assume that there is going to be one near there and only do 45 through there.

Just seems WRONG for cops to hide out in a cemetary to give out tickets.......got to be some kind of cosmic consequences for them later on.....I hope.

first off i do realize that cops do like to speed for no reason and roll through stop signs all the time for no reason. i also realise that most of them are egomaniac a$$holes. i used to ride along with cops about once a week and realized that often they are going on calls and because of the lame rules set up by civilian boards they had to run fast but werent allowed to run the lights and siren. they cops though this rule was the most stupid thing ever though up but most departments have similar rules.  your expected to drive really fast but you can use your lights. pretty retarded.  of course most of the time they are probably late for lunch.

Man, I didn't want to get started on the cops because I know they deserve a bit of respect for doing their job, but you're right, they do get on a power trip from time to time.

Personally, I've had 6 speeding tix since I started driving almost 10 years ago.  Typically 60-65 in a 55 sort of thing.

Except this last time when I was heading down I-95 just north of Richmond to visit the inlaws back in February.  It was about 6 in the morning on a Friday, overcast and still dark.

I'm driving my Mali at about 68-70 in the third lane, slowly passing cars in the second lane who were just touching the 65 speed limit.  But I'm only in the third lane long enough to pass before moving back over to the second.

Anyways, I start to pass this long line of trucks when an F-150 comes bearing down on me out of nowhere.  I didn't feel safe cutting someone off to move over, so I just move along at about 70.  Soon, the front of the line in the second lane is within eyesight.  When I look into my mirror again, the F-150 is gone and another set of lights, significantly lower, are really riding me.  So I speed up just to get around the first car in line.

Just as I pass the first car, I see the blue strobe at dash height flashing.

That SOB rode my a$$ for about 1/2 mile, continually getting closer to the point that I couldn't see his headlights before he turned on the strobe and he busts me for doing 79 in a 65!!!  I didn't want to fight it considering that I was an out of state driver, but where's this guy get off and why didn't he do anything about the F-150??

Perhaps tailgating isn't illegal in VA??  I know you shouldn't speed up when you're being tailgated, but with my then 9-month old daughter asleep in the back seat, my wife asleep in the passenger seat and no breaks whatsoever in the second lane, I had no choice.  He **** near pushed (literally) me to speed!!

Sorry for the long post, but I had to say something.

By the way, he also informed me that 80 and above is considered reckless driving in VA and is a criminal offense.  Just an FYI.

Listen to this one.

Heres the setting, Last day of school, June 15(had 12 snow days to make up)  Cops Galore and 30 guys roasting their tires, I mean total smoke shows.

I get up to the road, rev it to 3k and dump the clutch, 2 min later i hear sirens....as if i was the only person who could think of such an uncocievable thing.

Anyways, the "lady" cop asks me for my license.  Then she tells me to get out of the truck. "This point i'm thinking ****

why am i getting out?"

Then she says,"Do you have a job?"

I answer "well yes"

She says, " Good Because your gunna need one for the increase of insurance and ? wreckless driving ticket." My jaw kinda dropped and instead of crying(Like i think she wanted me to do) I got really pissed off and gritted my teeth. (hard enuff that i gotta go back to the dentist to have some bonding replaced)

To add insult to injury, she opens the back of the squad car door and tells me to get in.  After this she asks for my home phone number.  After she gets the number she tells me that "I was lucky that I got away with the Smartass attitude I had."

Oh I'm sorry I'm supposed to be happy when you tell me i just got 4 points and am going to loose my license on the last day of school.

After this she said, "Go home, I'll be calling your mother.."

Then she doesn't give me a ticket... At this point I'm like wtf...why the #### did you embarrass me infront fo the whole f***ing school parking lot and on top of it put me in the squad car?

I get home, after my mom talks to the lady cop, she asks me what i did to piss her off so, I told her i guess she didn't liek that i didn't grovel.  My mom said this lady had tears in her voice she was so angery.....Then my mom asks the unthinkable....ME I HAD TO APOLOGIZE!!!!!!!!! I regret it to this Very Day.

I find out later that this lady is subing for my town since shes been fired from not 1 but 2 departments!!! People like this should not be cops!!!!!!!!

That's the norm here in VA.

They've done that twice to my mom.

Another time Some guy I knew was riding through a Neighborhood and had and one follow him for 10 miles while he was obeying the Speed limit and pulled him for 35 in a 30 or something like that, which occurred 20 miles back from where he pulled him over.

    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
    • you might read through the info on gmupfitter.com for your truck, to find a good power source.
    • Melling I believe is/was the OEM on the lifters who explored this problem some years ago. The white paper they generated on the topic indicated two items of note when I read it. 1.) They only fail on the switch. Prevent the switch, prevent the failure. 2.) The majority fail due to deposits messing up the timing of that switch. Anyway that's what I got from it.    Mine have always been active, 195K+ now, and my oil maintenance is surgically clean.    Of course this assumes good parts. That is no heat treat issue or machining flaws. I get comfortable that these issues are in the rearview mirror by about 30K. IMHO naturally.
    • Yes, the key seems to be with the half tons that if it has the Z71, then it definitely has the two speed. What got me was that the two speed AND the lower geared towing package option could not be chosen together the last few years unless it was mated up to the 6.2. Want the 3.0 duramax and 3.73 tow gears ... nope, can't get the two speed transfer case ( neighbor son realized that after he had bought his used 3.0 half ton .. where the frick is the low range ? ! ).    I am still unsure which truck series, the half ton or the HD truck that the original poster is referring to for sure other than yes his question is in the HD section of this forum but that doesn't guarantee the question got asked in the right section.
