Warranty work?

I just bought a 2001 2500HD D/A with 90,000 miles on it. After doing a lot of reading I see that people (and my wife!) have had problems with a cold draft on the passenger side, and with the tailgate cables.

Shoud I expect a dealer to take care of these things for free? I know there was a TSB for the draft, and a recall on the tailgate. Is a dealer shirking his responsibility if he does not do this work for me...or am I asking too much?

You are Waaaaaayyyyy out of warranty. TSB's don't imply any extension of the warranty, they are simply for information.

There are several other problems that I see. First, you bought a used truck with 90,000 miles on it, so what do you expect? There is no loyalty to the dealer you are asking to do this (unless you bought it from them) so the likelyhood of them helping someone that bought a used truck with 90k and has never spent a cent in their service department is probably less than zero.

The second problem is that the dealer couldn't do it for you even if he wanted. We are limited in how far beyond the warranty period we can go with "goodwill" repairs. You are 30,000 miles beyond our limit. The dealer's AVM (rep) could pay for the repair, but I don't see that happening either.

And last but not least... don't get mad at me for what I've just said. That's the reality of it.

The tailgate cable recall is another story. In this case, it is good for ever, even if you're the 20th owner and it had 500,000 miles on it. So if the recall has not been done already, that is not a problem.

I don't mind a bit you telling me the waaaaaay it is. Your reply is what I expected, but wanted to make sure. I will check the tailgate cables to see if they have been changed, and maybe try to tackle the air leak myself. There is a pretty specific set of instructions available on another forum.
