bobby5
After reading all the posts about 285's on a stock HD im still debating on wether or not to go with the 285's on a stock 05 HD. If i get the 285's id go with the BFG All terrains. I know they would fit if i cranked the t-bars a little but i dont want to touch the t-bars or trim. I plan on doing 99% highway and road driving. How many of you would go ahead and go with the 285's?
Frank S
Go with 265's if you don't want to trim or crank. Should fit just fine and will still look better than the stock 245's.
2004GMC2500HD
Get em, but you will most likely have to trim something. I have BFG AT 285/70/17's and had to trim. Didn't touch the t-bars.
catiaeng
Put the 285's on, the look good. and if your lucky you wont trim a thing. I didn't and still have not touched the t-bars. BJ

BJ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. I've put 285's on a Yukon XL, Suburban Z-71 and my HD without ever having to trim or crank. I did, however, have to use the zip-tie fix on all of the trucks front, left side.
bobby5
What is the zip tie fix ?
Daubs
Add the 285's and crank the t-bars (I hate the nose-down look) Look at the Revo's! I was considering BFG's then found this link http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresult...y.jsp?type=ORAT D.
Machine
What is the zip tie fix ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Use a zip tie to pull the inner plastic fender lining forward. It easily stops any rubbing you may encounter when your tires are pointed to the right. Punch a small hole in the lining and run the zip tie through it. Attach the zip tie to solid piece of the truck behind the lining. It will give you about 2 additional inches of room. Works and lasts forever. HDChuck01
I put 285's on my HD and it made it look soooo much better than the 245's. I also put 8 inch wheels too but I like the look of the stock wheels with 285's also. Had to crank t-bars and trim a bit though but no big deal there. 496 CUBIC INCHES
I don't like 285s on stock 6.5" wheels. The tires look too "stretched" to me.
bobby5
I measured my stock tires and the closest they come to the inner fender is 2 inches fully turned in both directions. This should be enough room for the 285's shouldnt it ? Where and how much do people usually trim off when they trim? Anybody got any pics of trimming on there truck? Machine
You're over thinking this. As indicated, some people decide to trim and/ or crank the t-bars, or they use a zip tie. It's up to you and your situation. Most likely you'll only have zip it or trim it. The zip tie can keep you from cutting on your truck. If the stock config gives you 2" of space - zipping it could give you 4 - 5" of total space. Put those 285's on and enjoy!
