Bad transfer case?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've been trying to diagnose a loud grinding noise coming from the transmission area frequently when I down gear. I suspected that it might be the U-joint so I took it to the dealer and they didn't really help much, they said that there might be a transfer case problem. I came home and checked the U-joint myself and there isn't any movement when I attemepted to twist or lift the joint. Im thinking that the Tranfer Case is the cause of the problem, does this sound like the cause or have I missed somthing? Thanks for any advice

Cheers

I have a 2004 GMC 1500 Five speed man. and I have a grinding in the driveline under load. The dealers are no help. I complained during the warr. but they said this is normal.
