K&N kits now available for 05 model 5.3's

Well I thought I wud check the k&n site to see if they have any more info on intake kits to be released for the 05 5.3's.....and to my surprise (given that it is only the 3rd week of April) they now list a kit and part number.

 

they show part number 63-3050 for the 05 5.3lr motors

 

some interesting numbers are as follows:

they claim a hp increase with that filter kit as being 11.92 hp

 

in comparison, the 57-3021-1 (for 04 model years 5.3ltr) claims 9.11 hp,

while the 77-3021 (model 77 series that so many people seem to use, and also for 04 model years 5.3ltr) claims an 8.22 hp increase

 

Not sure if the release of this 63 series filter is confirmed or not, as I havent had a chance to contact k&n yet, but if anyone here can shed some light on this that wud be great.

 

better yet, if someone can test this filter ASAP, many people here wud be appreciative i'm sure. I want to order one soon but because I am north of the border, it will probably be a few weeks before it lands on my door.

That's a good question. I can compare my '03 against my '05, and the air box appears to be the same. Maybe I'm not looking good enough. Obviously, the intake tube is different due to the electric fans vs. clutch fan of the '03, but the air box looks identical.

I have heard that due to the electric fans, the routing for the heater hoses is different.

 

In any event, it sure took k&n long enough to finally get CARB approval for the 05 model years and release this kit.

just as I thought, I am having a hard time finding a distributer that can get this intake in. I have 3 phone calls in, but because this filter is not yet listed in any of the k&n books, they have to call directly.

 

Oh well, still hoping by the end of the day I can find a local store that can get one shipped soon.

I am north of the border also. I order my aftermarket parts directly from a US supplier, why pay a middle man. I normally get my parts for about 50-70% less than I could buy them locally.

wait a little while and get one off ebay. I got one off ebay for my 03 for $145. It's used but what could wear out, right. Some bran new ones on there can be had for around $200 after s&h.

well, after some more searching I found out that the above mentioned part number is only for the "aircharger" and not the FIPK intake. Not sure when the FIPK will be released for the 05 model years, but I guess I will try to contact K&N again tomorrow.
