Can you get a box like we have for XM in an 03 Silverado LT Z-71 that is a box for Sirius and run the the HU like XM or would you have to get one of the adapters ive seen and run it thru and aux input?

Thanks,

Amos

Yes you can, and I have one, and it is awesome. Sirius beats XM hands down. It is made by soundgate. You can pick one up for about 99.00 from various soundgate vendors. I got mine from logjam electronics on the web. Plugs right into the back of the HU, you use the band button to go from fm1 fm2 am sir1 sir2. You get 12 sirius presets. It uses the kenwood receiver, got mine for 40 on ebay. Mounted the sirius receiver with double sided HD mounting tape (the foam kind) to the underside of my cup holder tray thing (center console). Ran Sat antenna out of 3rd brake light / sealed with black silicone. I can get you pics if you want.

I also prefer Sirius to XM and use a soundgate adapter purchased from logjam. From what I've read you have to disconnect your XM and cannot have both at the same time running through the HU as you described.

Here's a good write-up that I was directed to when I installed my Soundgate. Make sure to read the part about pulling out the blue tab to disconnect the xm receiver (i spent way to much time trying to figure that out).

Will this work if you don't have XM from the factory. Looking to buy a new truck soon and I can't see paying for the XM and then switching to the Sirius but I would like to be able to control it through the head unit.

Yes! I can't wait until someone comes up with an adapter to have XM and Sirius at the same time thru the factory HU. LSU Fan, where are you?? I'm in BR.

I'm in the big BR. :P  Went to Duplesses today and test drove an extra cab Z71 and was pretty impressed.

Got mine from Gerry Lane. I love mine, even though it has its quirks! You should be able to get a great deal right now, with gas as high as it has been. I did see that Brian Harris was running some good sales in the paper last week, but they were the deceptive ones with the stock number by the truck in the ad. I hate that look at a truck for 24 thou, get there and they say, oh we sold that one but we do have these for 35!!!!

Great thread folks. My truck came with factory XM and despite the fact that they have the NASCAR channels I really would prefer Sirius because I'm a rocker. XM rock channels stink. They don't know what rock is.

One question, since I already have XM can I simply use the same antenna? I don't really care if I lose XM but it would save me some pain by just being able to use the same antenna. Can this be done?

From what I've read... you cannot use the same antenna. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong though!!

I can't swear to it but I'm guessing you can use the same antenna. I say this only becasue I added an Alpine XM to my HU and it came (used) with a Sirius antenna. It works fine.

Just a note about the antenna. I installed the Audiovox Sirius radio kit this weekend in my truck. It has the Bose 6 cd system w/rear DVD and XM. I like rock so XM was not adequate at all. I was able to use the factory antenna for the install. In my truck, the antenna cable is different than the pictures above. It's a single tan wire coming into the XM box. The connector on the end plugged right into my Sirius radio. I was very surprised by that. I had to extend the cable for my mount anyway but it's working great.

Now, a question. I was not able to find a 12V source that would stay on like the radio does after I shut the truck off (until a door is open or 15 minutes passes). I was also unable to find one that stays on in the ACC key position. So the truck has to be running or the key in the run position to have the Sirius on. Can anyone tell me where to pick up either of the above 12V inputs?

Thanks
