Gas Pedal sticks when you first push

Recommended Posts

My gas pedal sticks some when you first push it.

Was told it was due to carbon build up and needed an induction service done.

They wanted $119 to do it.

Is there something I can do/add to fuel etc... to clean it out.

What's involved in the induction service?

thanks

Do a search on "gas pedal sticking" on here and it will bring up several ways on how to fix it. Hopefully you mean that it is hard to push the gas pedal down, not that it is sticking open..... If it is on your 99' there is not much to fixing it- just clean up the throttle body; there are 3 bolts, a couple of plugs and some pain in the butt hose clamps and you can pull the throttle body right off and clean it up w/carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner. I've done it several times- No problem... Good luck!

Like stated above buy a can of throttle body cleaner. Clean the throttle body and your good to go. $3.99 tops and maybe 30 mins?

Thanks guys,

Will give it a try.

btw, yeah it just sticks when you first push on the pedal, not when it's open.

hey dude if your truck is a 99-01 or maybe 02 there is a tsb on gas pedal sticking before the truck takes off , as everyone elses has said it requires that you clean the trottle body real good especaily where the door opens to pull air down the intake, make shure to use specified t-body cleaner some cleaners will strip the coating off the bodys, after that the bullitan calls for a plug that will go in a small hole on that door of the throttle body(looks like one of the people from the game called "life") ill write back monday with a part number for that plug. then it says to replace the pcv valve. your local dealer should know about this tsb.

I used STPs throttle body cleaner.

The original TSB stated to replace the throttle body (had this done). My pedal started sticking again last summer. Cleaned it and it corrected the problem. It wasnt that dirty but did have some buildup. Recently the pedal started sticking again and I am thinking it could be due to the limited driving the truck has seen and has built up again?

ok gm has a carb clner but im shure any of the ones you can buy on the shelf will be fine if we run out at the dealer we use the berkable 2+2 . yeah on that throtle body replace ment you were right the t-bodys were being replaced now most of the trucks come withe the newest supersession of t-bodys , at my dealership we still do about 4 trucks a week that need that bullitin done where you have to plug that hole in the t-body like i said if i can find the bullitan on tuesday when i go to work ill give you the tsb# i had an 01 silverado 4.8 w/5pd and had the same issue so thats how i found it, i just did a serch on my computer at work for recent tsbs concerning this.

Is there a link to the instructions on how to clean your throttle body. I just got the valvoline synpower carb and throttle body cleaner, do you all think this is ok to clean with?

I'm sure any carb or throttle body cleaner is OK because you won't use much. When you pull off the air intake hose to the throttle body you will see all the crud around the butterfly valve that needs removal. I use a Q tip.

Hey guys,

Theres a new TSB on this (#04-06-04-054B that came out on March 17th of '03),Now you have to plug the hole in the middle of the throttle plate and adjust the TPS sensor to open the plate up a little more.

You need a scan tool to adjust the sensor because it goes off of the voltage reading of the TPS,Its not hard to do though,I did my '99 in a few minutes and never had another problem with it.

forget all that scan tool/sensor adjusting. I did my 04 drive by wire just fine. I soaked the outside with cleaner, wiped it off, soaked it again, then worked the plate to come up with my hand...held it with one hand and soaked the inside with the cleaner.....then let it down a bit and scrubbed the backside and then worked the red hose ont eh can in the throttle body and soaked behind the plate...wiped it all up and its perfect.

I had the same problem. I used STP Throttle Body Cleaner. Just take off the air intake tube going into the throttle body, douse it with the cleaner, replace the air intake tube and start it up for a minute. . .repeat until the pedal doesn't stick.

I have to do this like once every 6-12mos. because the problem re-occurs, but it's cheap and easy to fix.

Yes,That works fine...for a while, then like you said you have to do it all over again,I went through the same thing on my '99 and it gets old after awhile. With the TPS adjustment you do it once and your done.
