Recently, the Department of Homeland Security, under the lead of the DHS's second sworn secretary Michael Chertoff , decided that the current alert graphic for the Advisory System, formed under former DHS secretary Tom Ridge, was too harsh for the younger children of this country. The proposed outcome was to have a national terror alert advisory system that would not only provide continuous terror alert status for the nation, but also to be more gentler and less of a scare for the children.
