Turn Signal Wiring Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Posted

I installed some low-profile amber LED lights underneath my side mirrors. I spliced into the underhood fuse box where the left and right turn signal fuse wires come out. Everything looked and turned out great. The lights light up when the turn signal and the emergency flashers are activated. The problem is. . .when I got in to go somewhere, I pushed the brake pedal and they lit up. . .WHAT?! WHY?!

It doesn't make sense to me. . .does anybody know where I can splice into that's not going to light up with the brakes? I'd thought about splicing directly into the turn signal harness, but the lights light up with the parking lights as well.

THANKS!

just an idea, what about tapping into the wires for the turn signal indicators going to the gauge cluster.

Looking at the wiring diagram, I see the two wires that go from the "mid bussed electrical center" to the left and right instrument cluster. Can someone tell me where the "mid bussed electrical center" is?

The Mid-Bussed Electrical Center or "Mid-BEC" is under the dash on the drivers side, right by your left foot, its covered by a black plastic cover.

The color for the turn signal wires under the dash are light blue and dark blue.(I can't remember which color is left and which is right, you'll have to check)

Those are the ones I spliced into on my '99 when I wired up my turn signal mirrors.

I didn't splice into the Mid-BEC,I just spliced right into the wires themselves.

Thanks for your help guys. Got everything working appropriately. I didn't find the lt/dk blue wires out of the MBEC. . .but I did find them directly underneath the steering column. Even easier.
