Wind noise

I hate these d**n folding rear windows in the ext cab. They serve no purpose other than the guys that want to burn a joint in the back seat.

Anyway, all joking aside. My 2004 had a wind noise that came from the passenger side rear window. My 2005 did not have it until about 2 weeks ago. It has now developed wind noise above 55 mph in the passenger rear "flap" window as I call it. Does anyone else have this problem with their ext cab? Cures?????? thanks

GLOCK,No noise here on my '04 and never had any noise on my '99 either.

GM came out with a bulletin in Aug. of 2000 to replace the quarter windows for wind noise,But your truck definetly would have the newer windows already in it.

We have seen a few here and all we do is replace the windows as needed,Its all we can do.I don't think theres any adjustment.

I developed the same problem on the same window on my 02 Sierra. I discovered that I was able to "push out" the whole front of the window a little. Maybe half an inch. I took some tape, I used double-backed as that was all I had at the moment, and taped up the entire front (leading) edge of the window. Noise disappeared. I have a friend who installs auto glass. He took the window out of the frame and showed me how there was too much glue used when the factory installed the window frame in to the frame of the door. Then when the window was installed into the window frame there was some glue that got into the channel that the window mounts in. Over time the window worked itself out of this channel. Time and some pretty good slams by my daughter.

My friend took the window out, cleaned out the excess glue, and remounted the window. No wind noise since.

Might be something to check.

I get the same thing on my 05' ext cab, I bought it for long trips, and those short one's down the track...heh...heh...heh... but I've notice my passenger rear window leaking more between 55 and 85 on the hwy's. Grr it pisses me off, and the dealer say's thats within tolerances for those speeds??? so just had to vent :fume:

Thanks Scortch-- I went to the dealer today and they are installing a new window for me tomorrow at lunch. The dealer said it is common. The dealer said they don't know why solid rear windows are not an option on the ext cabs only the sorry flaps are available. He said he has seen both windows go bad real quick and then others go 6 or 7 years and be quiet as a mouse.

In my 2000 theres a pretty bad wind noise coming from my driverside rear window how muhc does it cost to get fixed? Because it is starting to become a pain. Thanks

I got mine fixed under waranty on the 99 and had them fix it on the 02 also. Seems like if I have the A/C on it makes it worse. It's been in the frickin 90's the past 2 weeks and I haven't heard as much as a squeak.

Took them about 2 1/2 hours to do mine.

Good luck

Glad I could help.

I wouldn't think that it would cost much to have an Auto Glass shop check out the window. Or the dealer if still under warranty. It is an easy removal, took less than 2 minutes. The window frame as two pieces of flat plastic that are @4" long. These have a groove, or slot down the center. There are corresponding pieces of plastic that are mounted to the window that have a "tongue" running down the center. The tongue on the window is pushed, or "snapped", into the slot on the frame. Those two plastic assemblies are the only thing between you and wind noise on these windows. Doesn't look like it would take much force for that to pop out. If you are experiencing noise it might be a good idea to have someone, or yourself, take it apart and make sure the window is mounted securely in the frame.

Dealer replaced it today. Just got home . took them a few hours. so far so good. they joked and said they would probably be fixing my driver side soon. they were cool about it. they replaced the entire rear window and assembly.

I saw on another post that they just sealed the rear windows up. Solves the problem. And unless you have "guys that want to burn a joint in the back seat," you're good to go.

The new window is leaking (wind noise again)!! I can see where the seal is not against the body of the truck. I called the dealer and they said to bring it back. How long should I deal with this? What can i do if this happens say 5 times?????

I had an '99 ECSB that had a serious wind noise from rear side windows any time I drove faster than 70 mph. I found out that if you run the air conditioning with the recirculate on, it will significantly lessen the wind noise.

Just my $0.02

I have had wind noise for years but have always fixed it myself by this method

crack a window in the front. go to the passenger side and open the doors, make sure the floor mat is not where the base of the door shuts, slam them both pretty firm. make sure the windows are shut. try getting going and then shutting your window.

I think the chevy's are actually so airtight that slamming the door without a window cracked is actually causing the doors to jar out causing wind noise and sometimes leaking.

It may be from 05 but, it did answer a complaint, I've had since 2002....... Dealer never told me about this.

Oh well, I found that you can open the window take a wet rag and clean the seal good. Then take silicon spray and hit the sealing surfaces quite well with the silicon..... Quite as a mouse for a year or so.
