Since mine is cracked where can I find a nice aftermarket Bowtie ?

What is the procedure for removing the old and putting a new one on ?

Thanks ! :seeya:

eBay is the way to go - I replaced mine with a solid aluminum one. You have to remove the front grill. It's rather easy, just a couple screws. Same with the emblem. The factory just snaps off, but the aftermarket ones actually screw on with two nuts/bolts. I changed mine out in about 15-20 mins.

From what I can remember my 02 I went thru the top behind the grill, just remove the plastic cover and removed the two screws on the bowtie, it came off easy with out removing the grill, have not tried the 04 yet

I bought my billet bowtie, antenna, and now billet GMC from an EBAY seller "eardamage1". Here is a link to his auctions:

On my '03 Chevy I had to remove the top cover over the grill/radiator support, same for my '05 GMC. Be careful with the push pins, I always seem to lose one.

On both emblems(bowtie/gmc) I installed the studs into the emblem with loctite. Don't install the stud too far as you can "bulge" the front of the emblem if you do(btdt on the bowtie). I also put loctite on the nuts just to make sure the emblem stayed put.

On my bowtie I went with polished aluminum, this lasted a couple of months and I got tired of polishing it so I converted it to brushed. On my GMC I went with chrome and am VERY happy with it instead of polished.

My factory bowtie got a rock dead center, so I got a billet bowtie with the outline. I had my local body shop paint the outline the body color of my truck. The only problem is I have to be constantly polishing it out. I wish I could've found a chrome one instead.

Wonder if spraying it with Clear Coat would solve kill the need for the constant polishing? I put a Texas bowtie on my '05 Z71, and painted a Texas bowtie on my '03 Z71. Both are holding up well with the Clear Coat paint. Keeps everything shiny and makes it easy to get the bugs off. Also protects against rock chips.

And, if it really gets scratched up due to the road debris, just clean it very well, lightly sandy it ultra fine sand paper or emory cloth, and then respray it with Clear Coat. Very easy to do. Kinda fun as well.

A long time ago, there was a link to a site on here that sold different bowties. From factory to state painted to a real nice American flag bowtie.

Anyone remember the site??

That's an easy one. Just get in a front end accident. :jester: That's what I did 2 saturdays ago. My bowtie has been cracked since I got the truck. I've been wanting to replace it for the last 8 months but haven't gotten around to it. Now Texas Farm Bureau gets to do it. Along with lots of other stuff. :chevy:
