dead battery from doors open

Have a 03 suburban with a 5.3. Left the doors open while camping and killed the battery. No key in the ignition, but had not explicitly turned everything off before pulling the key.

Luckily had cables and was able to stop someone going down the road.

I thought that there was some sort of battery run down protection circuit.

The run down protection is redicules in my opinion. Mine is the opposite of you guy's. I can't do diddly without losing all power. What a pain. While installing my invertor and amp/sub, damm inside light kept going off.

I didn't think I had rundown protection. I've killed my battery several times.

So yeah, I guess I'm with you guys....IT SUCKS!

If you just want to leave the doors open and not want them to drain the battery push the dome overide to the left of the steering wheel and it will turn the dome lights off while the doors are open.

If I want the doors open to listen to the stereo etc. with the key in the ignition, I rotate the latch on the drivers door with my thumb to the "door closed" position. This turns out all the lights and the door chime. To reset it, all you do is pull the door handle. I try and remember to put a rag over the striker to remind me that I've done it, because I've tried to close the door with the latch closed and it reminds me how crappy my short term memory is.
