99 Silverado Tailgate

My buddy has a 99 like mine and his gate seems to be real loose, he says it's driving him nuts with the rattle every time he hits a bump. When you grab ahold of it and shake the passenger side of it on the bottom where it hooks on seems very loose. Is this a common problem and is there an easy fix?

I'm not to sure just how much things have changed in the past few years but the truck at work had this problem.

Turns out that some goomba backed into something with the gate down and bent the pocket and the male "bolt "on the gate itself.  I would pull the gate off and check these two pieces. No expert but it solved the problem on the shop truck. THe other area I would look at would be the catch,it too could be damaged or just in need of adjustment .  Both are very simple fixes and the male and female hinge pieces on the '96 were about ? cdn.  Hope this helps.

Mine was losse and when i would lower it it would occasionally fall off (pass side where it was removable)

Well tech told me its a removable tailgate and its normal.  I said when i lower my tailgate its not supposed to fall off into my hand.  

They replaced a bracket and it hasnt done it since.  However it does seem a little loose
