How-to remove emblems

Hey guys,

 

I'm thinking of removing the door and tail emblems from my tahoe. Has anyone done this? Is it difficult? What is the best way to do this without scratching the paint?

 

Also my tahoe's paint is in excellent shape and has been well taken care but would the paint under the emblems look different since it hasn't been exposed like the rest? I don't want to remove the emblems and have a shadow type outline in the paint where they used to be.

 

 

Thanks for your help. I'm assuming this has been answered in the past but it seems the search function isn't working. I used to use it all the time but the last 3 weeks or so it has seemed to be broken.

Use fishing line to cut thru the tape on the emblems. Then rub the remaining foam tape off with your thumb. Wax the area where the emblems were and you won't be able to tell they were even there.

also heat them up like with a hair drier .then you can probably pull them off by hand

All great advice guys...But I prefer the "pinballing between concrete barriers in a construction zone at 82 mph" method of trim and emblem removal.

 

It's quite effective.

That also works well for shaving door mirrors and fender flares.

I think I will try wingnuts method. I believe his will be most effective to not have any paint differences.

 

Sounds like I need to steal the girlfriends hair dryer and pull some fishing line out of the tackle box. I didn't think it would be that easy. Thanks Guys!!

Easy? After I was done, I didn't think it had been that easy. My fingertips were sore. It was worth it though.

 

The main goal is to get the sticky stuff to stay with the emblem and not stay stuck on the paint. Hot sun will outdo a hair dryer any day. Peel real slow. Use a thin sharpened stick to persuade the sticky stuff to stay with the emblem.

 

If you have small areas of sticky stuff left, use duct tape to get them off. Lay down a piece of duct tape, peel it up. Repeat about 30 times. It will pull off the glue pretty well. Try this before you try WD40 or any other cleaner.

 

I've also heard the 3M glue remover works wonderfully, but I didn't have any.

 

It will look a lot better without the emblems. I like the way mine turned out. I even took off the LT emblems from the door posts.

 

Have fun, and don't get in a hurry. I did an emblem a day over a one-week stretch.

Get a 3M Stripe-off wheel for your cordless drill. I did my whole truck in about 15 minutes and didn't get a sore thumb.

That was the first thing I did...those cheap plastic emblems on a $37k truck had to go...

That's the best thing to use. After you use it once, you'll be looking for all kinds of sticky stuff to remove.

Where do I get one of those stripe-off wheels? I did one door emblem tonight and it wasn't too bad but 15 minutes for all of them. That is worth some $ if it saves my thumbs.

I got mine at a local paint supply store, it was $10. Well worth the $.

I dunno guys, I like the emblems. What I don't like is the cheap decals on the base model trucks.

 

I guess I'm wierd...

 

I really dig the chrome lookin' Sierra emblems.
